No power, car died. Major overhaul, please help.
I've got a 2001 LX that I picked up for my wife on the cheap ($300) wrecked. I manage a body shop and fixed it up. The automatic trans case was cracked in half, so I converted it to a manual. I am still utilizing the ECU from the automatic. I changed the engine wire harness and two of the harnesses under the dash. I'm trying to do things right. Well, I've got a CEL, no surprise there as the ECU is for an automatic. I don't have half of the SRS hooked up, so that's on as well. The car was completely stripped and painted pink (jambs and all). The dash was out as well. I got her running tonight and filled her with gas at a local station. I did some test driving and so on....breaking in a clutch, brakes, etc. I came to a stop and decide to figure out the new radio I got her when all the power when off. The car died. I figured something shorted and I lost the main fuse. The battery is new and the alternator rebuilt. I got it back to the shop. The fuse is fine. I hooked up the jump box and nothing happend. I've got no power...no dome lights, no hazards, nothing. The only thing I've got is the CEL and the SRS. The CEL flashed 6 times once. The power on these lights is very dim. I've started switching keys between the two that I have to see if 'the chip' has anything at all to do with what's happening. On occasion the green 'key light' will come on in the gauge cluster. I'm stumped. What am I overlooking. Thanks for your help in advance.
Well, problem solved. I check the battery, everything okay....I even took it back to the store for a 'load' test. It checked out fine. I was getting +12v everywhere. I used a test probe to verify the grounds and they checked out. The dim (and flickering) CEL on the gauge cluster indicated a bad ground, but where. I went to the main ground next to the battery. Since I had painted the engine compartment the threads where the bolt goes were covered with paint. I used a die to re-cut the threads, clean the battery terminals and cleaned the ground wire. The car started with no problem. Thanks to all for checking the post, even if you were as baffled as I was.
