My wifes '99 Ex Auto just turned over 160K, I have changed the fluid religiously in it.

Now her car is starting to have problems at the top of second gear, right before shifting into 3rd. If we take it easy on the car, it seems to run fine. If we drive it agressively, it runs fine. However, if you let the car shift into second early and then give it some gas, it will stutter like it's bouncing off a rev limiter.

Sometimes the check engine light will flash for just a second, while it's stuttering. I haven't seen it myself, but my wife says it does.

Things I've tried:
1) We took it to autozone and there were no codes stored.
2) Running it in "2" will not replicate
3) Running it in "3" will replicate


Anyone have any idea what it could be?
