This is a 93' Si w/ power steering.. It kinda sounds like rubber on metal. I have not yet had the time to get under it yet But i thought i'd ask first. So far you guys have had a pretty easy answer to all my questions. Thanks!

 

your PS belt is probably too tight or wrong size for that matter, mine does it too when i turn the wheel all the way over..especially in the cold

Im going with the power steering belt as wells, but do you here clicks when you turn the wheel all the way or just the screech?

 

sorry to thread jack, but in the cold my wheel clicks. what could that be?

as far as your squeeking i would say belt as well.

no, it has nothing to do with it being to tight or even the wrong size for that matter.
his belt s to loos and needs adjusting. the pump will squeel when the belt is slipping, this holds the same for the alternator as well. it is a simple fix, just tighten the belt and squeel will go away.

this goes the same when it's cold. the belt hasn't had time to expand from the heat, so again, causing it to squeel.

yeah, you can tighten it alittle (forgot the amount of play need) or you can let you car warm up, which is something that you guys should be doing.

 

It does not sound like a usual belt squeel.. But i'll tighten that belt when i get home. I bet you're right. Thanks! I'll let ya know if it stops.

while you are there, check your fluid, make sure you do not have a leak and are low on fluid. this too can cause it to squeek.

like your steering wheel or your wheels as in rims and tires?

 

the sound comes from inside the steering column. rite behind the steering wheel.

as far as your squeeking i would say belt as well.

Clicking is usually a CV axle/joint as stated above.

Screw power steering .. take it out!

Haha, lots of good info though. I have seen that a little tightening should fix it .. too much will make it worse. Just have to find that medium.

im pretty sure its not the axels as i can hear it coming from right behind the steering wheel as i previously stated.

yeah, have you checked the tension on the belt? or the level of the fluid?
there is nothing in or around the steering wheel or column that will cause a squeeling noise.

 

no no... i have no squeeling, but a clicking sound when i turn the wheel full clock from left to right.

bad CV Joint?

 

My steering wheel used to make noises but it was for sale at the time so never found out why.

 

Clicking comes from bad CV joints.

If it's belt squeeking, then tighten them up but leave 1-2 cm of deflection. (you can press on the belt and it flexes)

both of my steering wheels make a noise.mostly when it's cold. figured it was a honda thing.

 

yeah the sound comes from the sterring wheel itself not anything else
