Default o2 heater wires problem

98 ls integ. There are two black wires on the o2 sensor that connect to the plug. Do these black wires need to be in a specific arrangement? Or does it not matter? I'm throwing cel 65 Secondary oxygen sensor heater wire (black wires).

so then any ideas as to why it's still throwing the cel 65 code? All of the wires are connected securely.

check your connections. o2 sensors are very touchy when it comes to the wires.
if the wires were not connected very well you could have possibly fried the o2 sensor

ouch. So do you think it could still possibly be throwing the 2 black wire cel code if it were a bad o2? or would it be throwing something else?

I went through 3 brand new o2 sensors man. Finally I just got me ecu chipped so that the o2 sensor heater is disabled. No more cel.

theres four wires that go into you o2 sensor. 2 are for the heater and 2 are for the actual sensor itself. ( the part that tells the computer when your running rich or lean) this 2 completely different systems but work together in the o2 sensor. if you fry the heater, the sensor is shot. these are pretty pricey though. if your good with wiring you could get a universal o2 sensor which is way cheaper

The best thing you can do is use a multimeter and check continuity between the pins at the ecu and the wires on the sensor. You'll probably need help from someone to do it. You'll also want to check continuity between each wire and the chassis to make sure it isn't grounding out somewhere. If that all checks out, you have a bad sensor. No biggie.

I had a shop check continuity with the multimeter and the numbers would bounce around and then it would suddenly drop to zero. The guy at the shop said my ecu was bad, but i know it's not my ecu because i tried another ecu and it still threw the same cel 65 code. Should i just replace the o2 sensor? Or could it be something wrong with the harness or? o2's are pricey.

Even if you wouldn't have checked with another ECU, it's highly doubtful that it's the ECU. Unless there are some serious wiring issues in the car it's not the ECU. Of all the honda ECUs I've seen, (>100) I have never seen the O2 heater circuit even minorly damaged by normal use.

Have the shop disconnect O2, probe the two black wires with the meter set to ohms. If it reads 10-40 ohms then it's fine.
If it reads open, no connection, or OL then the O2 heater is bad. Replace the O2.

BTW, is the shop that's doing the checking for you, the one that's going to get you a new ECU? (some shops tend to diagnose problems based on how much money they can make based on that diagnosis)

Based on your original post I guessed you had all ready tried a new O2 sensor.
You may have to step back a little with your problem. Your ECU is telling you that your O2 heater is bad, maybe it really is that simple. Replace your O2 and see what it does. There is a really good chance that the CEL will go away.

General rule... unless you recently did a swap, messed with the wiring or were in an accident, it's a pretty good bet that wiring is not your problem.

my friend had the same problem with his 93 del sol. he replaced the o2 sensor and the cel would still stay on, then we just reset the ecu after that it turned right off and never turned back on.

Is there any way I could run the wires from the o2 directly to the ecu?
