Default Disaster in Paradise

For the last fue weeks I have been getting my h22 ready to put in my car. I took the head of and replaced verious gaskets, also ARP head studs Flywheel Clutch. everything looked great even my teacher said so (auto tech class). Everything go well a fue little problems but for the most part not any. It was friday so we take the car and motor back to my house (toe it becues it is not running yet). The hole weekend we spend hooking up vaccume lines and colant lines and some other things. We hit the key it turns over and a fue times but doesnot start. try it again and another time. Well ok I bet I know whats wrong take the spark plug cover off and the wires where wrong. I let my friends put them in while I was cutting the shifter holes. After that it started right up sounded like it idles a little high but it is winter in Maine so it is frezing and we just figure it is becues of the cold. We are checking all the things looking for spots of oil and collant where it might be looking when I see leaking out of the back of the head/block mating area. Now after putting it all back together and in we need to take the motor out or atlest the head off. If you have ever worked on an eg h22 on the TB side there is very little room. prob end up taking the motor out so I can send the head away to get it shaved stright.

Hello fellow Mainah.

Hopefully, possibly the head studs where not torqued correctly/enough. Have you tried re-torquing them?

nope they was tourqed right lubed up the threds with the ARP lube put them in the block hand tight, set the gasket down then the head lubed the top of the stud up twisted them down till hand tight then used a toque wrench and tightend them to 29 lb punds, checked them all then to 51 checked them again and then to 72 checked them 3 times. did it in the right sequence and I had like 6 people watching me. I am 100% sure it was not that. I wish it was only that. I thought about retorqueing them but on the h22 you need to take the cams out timming belt of by that time it is like 3 more min just to take the head off.

Yeah, it sucks to take a motor apart twice. Hopefully everything works out for ya.
