can you weld 304 ss and 306 ss together

Default can you weld 304 ss and 306 ss together

im buyin a downpipe that is 304 stainless steel and an exhaust that is 306 stainless steel. can the be welded together and if so what should i use to weld them together. don't worry, i won't be doing the welding, i have connections

thank you but the sarcasim is not needed, no **** i need a welder, but which type of welder would you reccomend and whats the best rod, i think is what it's called, to use. i don't know **** about welding, obviously, so all help is greatly appreciated

no sarcasim. thats all you need. i use a syncrowave. get some stainless steal fill rod and the red tipped tungsten. sizes and amperage will vary depending on personal preference and thickness of material.

You still havent told him what he needs. Whats a syncrowave? Theres different grades of stainless. What grade does he need?

i use a miller 250 dx syncrowave tig welder when im at work, and a 225 syncrowave when im at my house. it doesnt have to be a syncrowave, or a tig welder but thats what i use. as for different grades. I honestly would weld it exactly as if i were welding two peices of 304 together

It is probably not even 306 anyways. Most tubing used on cars is 304, 321, and 409. 321 is sually used on headers and 304 and 409 for everything else.

theres a selection chart. im sure you men 316 is the other metal, not 306.
the selection chart is kind of strange on this combination as it isnt symmetrical for some reason.
oh well, that narrows it down to 3 selections 308, 309, 316
