Good 6.5" Component set or 2 ways. That have some moderate lows
Im looking for a good set of 6.5" for my truck. I have some clarions in there and they have no bass at all realy i think the factories had more.
What do you guys use around 100ish or 150 at the most.
I listen to alot of hip hop and raggee and some alternative

http://www.eclipse-web.com/point/sp6500.html installed properly and with about 2x75W RMS going to them, you should be impressed.

I've got a few questions along these same lines. '98 Nissan Frontier extended cab. Went up to Crutchfield and looks like front speaks are 6 3/4". I've got some equipment from old installs and I'll be driving fronts with an Xtant 4.4 that'll put out 2x200 bridged to 4ohms
System goals
1. Good sound quality but more focus on SPL than SQ. I've got a SQ-focused system in my car......Dynaudio 340's powered by an Arc XXK 4150. I'm not expecting that level of sound quality but it'd of course be great to get as close as possible
2. Good height to front-stage. I noticed there's a factory location high in each door for a tweeter. BUT, I'm gonna need a tweeter that either has solid off-axis performance or has solid on-axis performance but can swivel.
3. $350 budget max for a component set
4. Use factory mounting locations. This will be my first complete install of a stereo. Although I built a pair of home speakers in my teens and just finished re-doing the hatch portion of my other stereo I think I need to keep this as simple as possible.
The hatch took me about 5 times as long as it'd have taken anyone else.
5. Woofer of the component set needs to be mounted on a solid baffle. Maybe 1/2" MDF.
6. I'm really not a fan of hard-dome tweeters. I've yet to hear a pair I've really liked.
====> So, based on this my main question would be the off-axis performance of the Eclipse tweets in the set mentioned in the below post....I noticed they are removable so I could install them in the factory location. I'm of course up for component sets less than $350 if I can get meet or come close to meeting the goals for my front-stage.
I was also looking at the Polk DB 6750's.
Does anyone have experience with JL's component sets? If so, what's your impression of sound?
Miscellaneous:
I'll be taking my other Xtant amp....an x1001 and running this mono to a single 12w7 or 13w7.
Fitting all of this is another story but I've got a couple ideas in mind....I'm gonna get some cardboard and create models of both amps, sub enclosure and my 1/3 octave EQ and play around with a few things and see what works out best.
Amp power & speaker RMS......I'm personally of the opinion it really doesn't matter if there's a mismatch.....what you do with the volume control and gain settings is what counts. The reason I say this is because I notice many of these 6 3/4" speaks in the $350 range aren't rated at 200 watts RMS or I suppose this actually is true of many 6.<x>" speaks.
And of course if you guys have any tips/tricks/advice/etc I'm all ears......

if your looking for a set of good budget components sub $100 range check out TMA audio which is a sub company of JL audio. millionbuy.com carries them and they ship fast. $75 for the components and about $50 for 2 ways.

jl's new tr650csi are in my car right now and im very happy with them. running off my stock acura deck to and they still sound very clean. base is pretty impressive for 6.5s
well I ended up going with a pair of Alpine Type R's on the recommendation of an installer I met at Pasadena Auto Sound. Tweets will swivel up to 15 degrees and their soft-dome as well. It would really be nice to find a shop who has built a contraption to listen to car speakers mounted in a location that will be similar to the install loc in one's car.
Some type of booth/recreation of the inside of a car in which you can sit down and component sets or even subs are mounted on some ferris-wheel contraption and all that's needed to be done to listen to different speaks is rotate this ferris wheel contraption so the speaks you want to listen to are in a position that is similar to your planned install loc. It's not totally ideal but it'd be a hellava lot better than what you normally find i.e. one big wall of speakers where you've gotta squat, sit on the floor or stand on a step-stool depending on where the speakers you'd like to audition are installed

I am running Diamond Audio 6 1/2" components in my RSX and I will be installing Polk 6 1/2" components in my 87 Teg this week. I love the Diamonds but was unable to get the deal (budget system for the Teg) on em so I went with the Polks for the Teg. I installed some 6 3/4" Polk coaxials in the rear of the Teg and so far I am very happy with them (especially for the price).
