Okay so I tried to fit a set of Spoon twinblock calipers (for the DC2/EK9) on my EG today but there wasnt enough clearance for the pads. IE: they wouldnt fit on the O/S at all but we managed make them fit on the N/S but there was absolutly no tolerance on the disc (rotor). We grinded off the retaining clips and didnt use the provided shims either but still no luck.

I was previously running 98 spec ITR calipers (to run 282mm discs) and Red Stuff pads. Spoon Calipers use stock sized replacement pads which the Red Stuff pads are so I know im good on that front.

My conclusion is that the disc/rotors im using are too thick. They are MG ZS (282mm, 4x100) but they're 1" (25mm) thick and I believe stock ITR disc/rotors are 21mm or 23mm. I'm not sure.. Maybe that extra bit of clearance would be enough for the pads to fit. Can anyone clarify this?

So all in all a non productive day.

I believe the ITR rotors are 21mm thick. I mean 4mm is a lot when working with pad fitment.

PM BrakeExpert, he might have ITR rotors redrilled to 4x100.

 

i don't think the Monoblocks are made to work on older cars like the DC/EG/EK's...

that's why the Twinblock is available for those chassis. the Monoblock is supposed to be for the EP3 and newer cars (including S2k).

LOL no worries, i just picked up a set of Twinblocks as well.

so far, i've ordered the Fastbrakes 11.5" rotor (redilled to 4x100), bought a 1" mastercylinder and booster, picked up stock OEM ITR pads, and am looking at a 3mm or 5mm spacer to clear my wheels.

once i get it all in i hope they all work together!

 

Coo I was thinking of maybe getting the 11" fastbrakes rotors.. I take it your not running 15" wheels with a 11.5" rotor?

 

i'll be running my TE37's... 15x6.5", +45 offset..hence why i'll probably need a small spacer

 

Weired i'll be running 15x7 TE37's in +42. Wasnt sure if the bigger rotor would clear though..

I just e-mailed fastbrakes about the 2 piece rotors made for the Spoon/OEM ITR calipers http://fastbrakes.com/shop/pro...d=873 and apparently they are 25.4mm thick exacly the same thickness as the rotors I have.

Did you remember to compress the pistons before you tried to install the pads. I forgot once and did the same thing, just C clamp that bitch.

 

No. the Spoon twinblocks can go on any Honda knuckle except the new RL and any honda with stock 9.5" or smaller front brakes. On a DA/DC or EX civic, the twinblock caliper goes on like the ITR and will thus cover an 11.1" rotor.

The ITR front rotor is 11.1" and is 23mm thick. Using a 25mm rotor is too close. Having em new, even if the rotor clears, you will NOT be able to use new pads. I reccomend grinding the actual pad material off, OR the better solution is to use the Prelude VTEC rotors. This will take either a wheel spacer (3mm) under the wheel, or the Spoon calipers would need the same milling job as ITR brakes in 4x100 form. The Spoon caliper may have the right dimensions to where it doesnt hit stock.

The monobloc one is a bolt on replacement for the S2k. if you put it on your EX knuckle, it will then cover an 11.8" rotor (25mm thick.)

Thanks for your help! Re-drilled Prelude VTEC rotors it is.. I thought the rotor thickness was the cause of this being 25mm compared to the standard 23mm.

whoa! other than the smaller Civic knuckles ALL OTHER Honda's have the same caliper mounting?? COOL.

 

Can some one verify this? twinbloc supports 23 mm thick rotors but the monobloc can handle 25 mm? what is the factory thickness of s2k rotors?
