Bar'ing: LS MOTOR
My buddy has a ls motor that he would like to bar but he just had a couple of questions before he tried to bar it.
First of all on the block itself it says b18b1 and the tranny says s80. This is going into a 1994 civic hatch and I was wondering if there was a way to tell what year the motor is? I was looking at his motor and it looks like that the head is a pr4-3 and i noticed this because of the (valve cover) it looks like the head is from the 91 integra. Is there anyway to tell which intake manifold is on there (the b18a or b18b) and which distributor? Will the head give him a problem during the bar'ing process? Lastly it looks like the stamp dated on the head is 9/5 just kind of confused on what head is on the block and if this is even possible to smog.
Any help and info would be useful. Thanks in advance and please let me know if anyone needs pictures to help me out.

1996 LS motor. If he converts it to OBD1 he should be able to pass unless the ref wants to be a major ***. But im 99.999% sure you could convert obd2 motors to obd1 as long as there is an obd1 counter part (in this case there is an obd1 LS).
If the ref notices it's an OBDII mmotor; he will fail it unless it has the OBDII ECU.... So that means, ger rid of the CKP sensor near the pulley
The rule is: same year or newer; (basically same model range the motor came from) You can install it if you add any and all smog or related equipment that came on the vehicle it came from.
That means, purge, charcoal canister, PCV, and possibly EGR (in certain circumstances).

Sorry guys i just looked at the head today and noticed that it said 9/5. How can i tell if the motor is the obd 1 and obd 2 version? Also what year head does my friend have if the code is pr4-3. THanks

Got some pictures of the motor. Please let me know from the pictures if you can identify what year the head is and if it is obd1 or obd2. Thanks

I read somewhere that when the head is stamped 9/5 it can either be for that year or the year after, how do i go about figuring out which year it was made for?
The motor is using OBD-1 for the distributor but OBD-2 clips for the fuel injectors. The casting mark says 95, im pretty sure its an OBD-1 motor.
The block should say B18B1 on it as well

Thanks for the info guys. Just trying to help my buddy out who is trying to bar his motor. Again thanks for all the info and keep it coming? If anyone knows anyone who can look at the swap when its done, to make sure everything was done correctly for bar we'd appreciate it.
honda made b18b for 94-00 integras, but only 94 and 95 came in obd1 96-00 is obd2. to tell if it its obd1 or obd2 is by looking at the dizzy. the 94 and 95 dizzy have 2 plugs with a square shape pattern on valve cover and 96-00 dizzy have 1 plug and a straight solid valve cover

yes but the injectors are obd2 like others are saying. So someone changed the injectors. I am running 99 ITR injectors in my coupe with a obd1 motor.

Don't have the vin number all i have is the serial number off of the block. Can anyone out there check the serial number for my buddy to see if it is stolen or not?
