Default What can i do to make my car quieter?

I have a 2000 EX w/ LS swap, gutted cat, stock intake, and I THINK stock exhuast. I do a lot of drivin and I hate road noise. I want my car to sound like a Lexus when i'm done and i need some suggestions to help quiet the interior noise. I was thinking Dynomat, but its expensive so I want to take another route. Would rubberized undercoating, on the inner fenders, undercarriage, and trunk area help alot? I was thinking of sprayin some on the inner door panels, under the carpet, and well basically everywhere that paint shows. Do yalll got any suggestions?

A Civic will never sound like a Lexus, first off. Secondly, get a new cat. 2hp isn't worth raspiness. That said, you may get more benefit by asking this in the Pant/Body forum.

did you get that idea from the HT member who sprayed that bed liner crap all over the interior of his car?

not sure how much that will benefit, but will add more weight to your car.

and if you want your car to be more quiet, then add the stock intake in and get a new cat, that right there is probably about 30% of your noise.

Got the idea from riding in my buddy's CTS. Weight isn't an issue.

Cascade makes some really good dampening material in both sheet and spray form. Generally cheaper than 'Dynamat' as well.

you can't compare a CTS or a Lexus to a civic. tons of research and development is what has led those cars to be so quiet and smooth. the amount of money you would spend trying to quiet your honda, you might has well buy a Lexus or CTS.

you really want to help make you honda quiet. get a new oem replacement cat. hit up the muffler shop and see if they can add another resonator to your exahaust.

what type tires do you have? tires to play a roll in road noise.

i've tried the undercoating on my old car and it didnt help much, you would probably have to spray a few layers to notice something.

I'm sorry but that's just ignorant....

If you do what the above poster said in relation to the additional resonator and stock cat that will obviously quite you down quite a bit... same for the stock intake...

HOWEVER if you spray all 4 wheel wells with ruberized under coating that will eliminate a HUGE amount of road noise... for even more effective sound deadening of road noise you can remove the wheel well liners and spray the metal structure underneith it as well as the backside of the wheel well plastic... then re-install and spray the side that faces out once re-installed.

If you run dynomat or equivalant that will again reduce noise pretty dramatacally...

Then if you wanna go nuts you can use some of the other products from the sound deadening companies it will only increase the quite...

I did b-quite extreme on the entire trunk and floorboards of the passenger cabin and it made a HUGE difference even with the carpet still out.

Then they sell products like vcomp and lcomp which are layerd with foam as well as the tar/aluminum which will offer even more sound deading.

You can make the car VERY quite... the only thing that highdollar companies like lexus/bmw etc. can do that we can't is the double pained glass which does make a HUGE difference once everything else is all sealed up.

for 400-1000 in sound deading (and god knows how many hours) I'd bet dollar to dime you could be QUITER than a lexus in a civic.
