Default Which filter is better for the DIY Icebox setup? [K&N E-2427 or Comptech filter]

also -- for the DIY icebox i followed the instructions and drilled a hole in the piping closest to the turn signal to let water drain but i didnt drill the hole that was suggested in the instructions on the stock airbox.

can the icebox still hydrolock if the water can't drain out quick enough???
any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

i have a aem cai and after making the diy icebox the torque and throttle response all came back now. it just pulls so much harder than aem with less high power. i love it.

I was just about to make one (DIY icebox), but I noticed that you can not put your left turn signal back on....

Is this true?

If not, won't the signal block the airflow?

Wow, you feel more power than AEM CAI!!!

This really comes down to personal preference. Some prefer an oiled foam filter and others prefer a oiled cotton guaze. Performance wise, I don't really thing you will feel a difference.

The hole in the bottom of the piping is to allow water any water that may collect in the tubing to drain. This hole is not to prevent ingestion of water into the intake.

To prevent water ingestion into the intake another hole should be drilled in the bottom of the airbox. This hole will allow air into the airbox in the event that the intake opening is submerged in water.

I personally would not drive through standing water if I didn't have to. But in the unlikely event I had to, I have a screw drive in my car which I can use to remove the top to the airbox.

I'd go with the K&N.

BSQ --

wont the hole drilled in the stock airbox reduce some airflow into the intake then?
kinda like the air bypass valve for AEM. wouldnt that defeat the point of the intake?

I does not really matter what people think is better - the Comptech filter has been dyno proven several times to net ~2 whp. I have not seen any K&N dyno numbers.

Why people still recommend the K&N is actually a bit of a mystery to me. Am I missing something (genuine question)?

i can see what you mean here about personal preference but what do you think about upgrading from a stock paper cone filter. because i was thinking about just buying a new ITR air filter cause its so cheap. but i should definitely upgrade right?
whether i choose comptech or K&N i will be better off than an OEM filter???

it is one screw to take the blinker off so it is not that big of a deal! but YES the blinker stays on while your driving around town. (i got mine for around $18 from Lowes as well but that is just b/c I went extra trick and got a funnel thing for the ram air affect)
the only thing I have found to be a flaw was that if you do run it with out the blinker(me) you need to open the air box after you put it back together (I picked up a few huge *** Dragon Flies and a gum wrapper once. Hehe OWNED!)
- I traded my AEM cold air after trying it -

The hole should not have any affect on airflow because of its size (1/4" diameter). The hole in the bottom of the airbox isn't absolutely necessary, but it is a safety feature which can be incorporated to prevent hydrolock. FWIW, I do not have the hole drilled in the bottom of my airbox. The reason is because I would not drive through standing water as metioned before.

I would recommend upgrading. At least you can clean and re-oil either the Comptech or the K&N when they get dirty.
