Default tell me about cams on a b16...

i've been thinking about getting more power/torque out of my 1st gen b16, and i've heard that the stock cams are doo doo. anyone have cams?? notice a big difference or not worth the cash? i really don't want to take the head off, so which cams could i use with the stock valvetrain? thanks for the help/advice..

My brother put in CTR cams in his B16 in his 99si and it idled like crap, jumping up and down. He did run a 15.2 with the cams, he ran a 15.5 without them.

I got a set of 2001 ITR cams in my B16 upgraded the valve train with ITR springs etc.

I haven't had a chance to dyno it yet or pull a 1/4 mile run but it does definately feel quicker. I've run a friend of mine with a stock B16 in his 92 hatch and pulled away quite nicely, where as b4 the cams we were very close.

as for the idle...it's perfect I don't even notice a difference over the stock cams

For the money the ITR Setup is well worth it.

i got ctr cams in my 1st gen b16, it idles fine...i think you just have to set the timing to stock, they shouldn't be too bad coz they are from the factory. the performance is pretty good, dropped my et's down .2 seconds from 15.3 to 15.1...i stillneed to find their sweet spot, so i can expect a little more gain. daily driving in them are fine too, i think there's a little more torque (seat of the pants test) and there's definitely more pull once i pass 6000 rpms...what kind of driving are you going to be doing? drag? autocross? skunk2 stage 3 i hear are pretty good for drag, but i dunno how they are with emmisions. skunk2 stage 2 are pretty good too, made my buddy's gsr coupe drop into the 14's

A buddy of mine has CTR cams in his car and the idle is fine. Think his is set to 16.

depends on what year your replacing , usdm 94-up b16 cams same as gs-r

itr/ctr cams should have perfect FACTORY idle , something was wrong with that install

timing off ?

make sure you supply more fuel for those cams, which ever you choose to do. cam swaps are useless w/o added fuel.

What year is your b16a?
The only thing worse than b16a1 cams is automatic b16a1 cams.
There would be little to gain by going to GSR cams.

I have CTR/ITR cams in my b16 with crower titanium retainers and itr inner springs, I left the original b16a dual springs and outer springs since they are the same as gsr size. I can rev to 9500. I had vtec at 5200 and it lagged at that point. I raised it to 5500 - 5800 crossover, works way better. The cams sounds way beefier than the little b16a sticks, I feel it's stronger all around and noticeably a lot on the high end. Although I have a flat spot between 8500-9500 I think. You have to dyno and adjust the cam sprockets for peak hp, otherwise just droppin in cams won't do much if it's not tuned. I'm trying to dyno this month before races in August. I'll post my results and cam timing as well. I have no idle problems what so ever with these cams too.

ctr and itr cames are NOT the same. also when swaping cams you only really need to swap the intake cam unless your doing aftermarket cams. b16/18 vtec exhaust cams are exactly the same

I picked up a set of 97 gsr's very noticable difference. Pulls harder than the stock cams noticable at the high end. An adjustable fuel pressure regulator is a must though.

The CTR and ITR intake cams are different, but the CTR and ITR exuast cams are the same.

ok, so to use ITR cams in a 1st gen B16, is the only other thing needed a fuel pressure regulator?

ONLY if you are keeping the redline stock. if you plan on revving anything over stock redline, then you need ITR intake springs and to move your B16 intake springs to the exhaust side. then you should be good for ~8500 with the ITR cams. but then i'm not sure how much i would trust 10 year old 1st gen valve springs for high revvin.

and that doesnt include cam gears for fine tuning.
