s2000 AP1 transmission question
Hi, I just bought a 2002 S2000 and after a few weeks I started hearing some
winding noise coming out of the transmission (i think so) when the car accelerates. I think there is no gear oil in it. How do I put gear oil in it and what should I use?? Any help would be very helpfull.

Personally I use royal purple.
As for filling, if there really isn't any fluid in it it probably would have seized up by now. So take out the drain plug and the fill plug, drain the old. Put the drain back in and fill the tranny until fluid starts coming out the fill plug. Correct me if Im wrong. I didn't change mine they did it for me at my dealer when I got my first free oil change, I brought them the gear oil and they did the rest. That is how it was on my teg tho.

^^ Clutch buzz is on deceleration.
Christion...unless you have a leak, there should still be oil in the tranny. It might be old and it doesn't hurt to change it. The new Honda MTL is excellent...definitely recommended. If you are going to do this yourself, always take the fill plug out first. That way if you can't get it off you can still drive the car to a mechanic to do the work for you. Also, be careful not to tighten the drain & fill plugs too tight...you can crack the aluminum tranny case.
You should probably also change the diff oil too. DO NOT GET DIFF OIL FROM THE DEALER! Honda does not make a specific diff oil for the s2k and the parts person will likely sell you CRV diff oil instead. CRV diff oil will distroy an s2k diff in a few hundred miles.

clutch buzz? its never done it on any other car iv driven. noraml or is it a problem?
also i got diff oil from the dealer. i read plenty of posts on here with dealers giving CRV diff fluid. i confirmed many times with the mechanic about it and he ensured me it would be ok on a s2000 diff. got his name too just incase.. its been about 500-700 miles.

we have NEVER used Dual Pump Fluid for the S2000 rear diff...that is just weird to hear a dealer do that. DPS is very thin and it's structure is more like ATF- being used with clutch packs and all.
We use the proper gear lube for any S200 rear diff svc

Clutch buzz was common on early AP1s...there is a TSB out on it. It is "normal" and doesn't damage anything but it is annoying. Later clutches usually don't make the noise...at some point in 02 they changed the design to stop the buzz.
I hate to say, but you are living on borrowed time with that diff if you put CRV diff oil in it. The mechanic that recommended it is an idiot and when your diff dies he will blame it on on something other than the oil he recommended.
I would get that stuff out of there asap and begin saving for a new diff. Yours may last a few months or a year or two maybe if you are lucky and you replace the oil now.
