Default new on this 1994 accord lx

i just bought a good looking and working accord 200,178 miles but runs good. it takes a while for the tempature gauge to get to normal position it would stay in 1/4 for a good while be4 it starts ricing or sometimes it just stays cold while driving on the freeway? i also want to do a complete tune up, wat kind of oil should i use? spark plugs? wire? anything else?

a couple weeks ago I bought a 94 lx accord with similar mileage 214,000 and mine did similar things. I thought that my gauge was going out but it was my thermostat. it would occasionally show about a 1/4 to 1/3 and then sometimes it just wouldn't show anything after a while it stopped coming off of the C at all and was running rough with poor heat output, worse gas mileage, abmormally high Rpm's when "warm". I just changed the thermostat and that stuff went away I think you may need to do yours aswell. It's only about 10$ and doesn't require too much moving stuff. I'll give you a heads up though it's in the radiator hose in the rear of the motor, not the convenient one.

As for the replacement parts I've heard that just normal oem stuff is fine. I've seen Autolites and NGK's reccommended for sparkplugs the gimicky stuff isn't really necessary. I'm kind of curious about the oil myself though, someone will chime in I'm sure to fill in some details also to affirm or refute what i said.

Good luck to you.

Grant

I use mobil 1 and love it. as for the plugs ngks, and denso are great you don't really need iridium plugs unless your boosted though, but they do have basic plugs. I am running the tusdo multi core wires which are doing great after 25k miles. make sure you do a cap and rotor too. don't forget to use a good oil filter, friends don't let friends use fram. lol

check your radiator hoses, they may have a leak.

It's hard to say what your bucking is, does it do it when changes gears? The accord trans shifts harder than normal anyway but when the motor isn't warming up it shifts even harder. I still vote for the thermostat.

automatic or standard? auto, check the fluid level, and color. I don't doubt that it is low, and needs a tranny service, that could cause a buck. the lack of power, tune up or clogged fuel and or air filter, dirty oil, timing off, ect. all of those could cause this prob.

1) Check ATF if automatic
2) If manual, either time for a new clutch, or you need to learn how to drive a clutch.
3) New thermostat, definitely.
4) Belken distributor cap and plug wires, they have a lifetime warranty
5) NGK or Bosch spark plugs.

the car is auto, and i just changed the oil and had the trans fuluid check, and it was alright, the thermosat sensor is loose and slides right of, can that be the cause, also the air filter is dirty and havent changed it.

New oil and FRAm air filter/oil filter. I used Pennzoil oil. I dont really care what oill i use on thsi car but i bought 2 4 qt jugs so ill be using that. I also switched my MTF out. penzoil uses or used a wax base for there oil for the longest time, which is much more likely to sludge up, and block the oil passages.
I know at least three people who have raced semi-profesionaly that have used fram oil filters. the filter ended up blowing out and they lost there motor because of it.
Bosch plugs, especialy the multi-electrode ones, seem to foul out faster then any other plug I've ever used.

i dubt you will get sludge if you change your oil at 3k miles.
oil analysis sais that Pennzoil gets good wear results . But yah personally its not my favorite oil company either.

you sure can if you let your car sit in the drive way and warm up before you drive it. it doesn't let the pcv work properly, and the moister will mix into the oil
