heater fan doesnt work... please help! its cold outside!
my aunt is having trouble with her heater motor, the fan will not work most of the time. but i guess sometimes if she plays with it or just leaves it alone for a day or two it will all of a sudden work. you can feel the heat kinda, but it wont blow out. i looked at it when she said it wasnt working and checked the relay, but its fine. do you think we should put in a new blower motor for it? i have no idea what to do about accords but maybe you guys have had similar ploblems? any help is greatly appreciated because its about 25 degrees here and its her only means of transportation! thanks guys!
oh i forgot to put that stuff! lol.. um its a 1992 im not sure about the trim. but its got power everything. i dont think its got a sunroof. in fact i know it doesnt. its an automatic too!
If it just plain doesn't work then put a new motor in. If it only works on one speed then it needs a new resistor. Before putting in a new motor make sure to check the relay is working correctly. More often than not though the problem is resistor or the motor itself though, pretty rare to see the relay go bad.
I replace a fan motor this past summer on my 96 accord 6 cyl. Is your fan under the glove compartment? Locate it, turn on the ignition, turn on the fan, if nothing, then do the following:
hit the fan directly with a malot (rubber hammer, sorry about the spelling) slightly. If the fan starts to turn, then it is the fan motor (dirt or weak motor). You can buy one from Autozone for about $60. It has two seperate connection plates. Unlike the original motor, the plug goes directly on the motor harness. Let me know if this helps. I can give you more details on how to take the fan motor out. You will need the original fan, don't damage it when you do take it out.

I am having the same type of problem. However, I'll be a little more specific as to the symptoms...
I noticed last summer the fan would be runnign just fine, all speeds adjustable etc. Then, I'd stop the car for one reason or another and when I got back in, the fan would not be working. Then, after a while it would randomly just come on. The fan blows hard when it's blowing. No strange noises etc...
Could this be a relay issue?

It ended up being the fan motor. A replacement was available at the local autoparts place. After an hour or so of tinkering, it was good to go.
