4-2-1 header vs. 4-1 header (need to know he differences)

Well.... the 4-1 doesnt always have to have the highest end HP. Companies are now making "Stepped" 4-2-1 headers (like Toda) that provide an increase throughout the entire powerband like the classic 4-2-1 header by using stepped tubing and keeping the primary/secondary's lengths long, while incorporating charecteristics of a 4-1 header (example: having the collector size large enough for peak horsepower gains equivalent to a 4-1)

power aside, here's 2 other things to think about.
clearance: 4-1's have a much larger collector than a 4-2-1 and in turn, it hangs much lower. Pretty much everyone I know around here (NYC) who had a 4-1 has crushed the collector.
maintence: if you're removing the tranny, it's nice to be able to just remove the downpipe on a 4-2-1 instead of having to remove the entire header as you would with a 4-1. Cut's at least an hour off a clutch job.

SOUND. From my experience with DC 4-2-1 and DC 4-1, the 4-1 brings out the raspiness or tinniness (are these even words? hehe) from my exhaust. My Tanabe RM went from mean and low to a weed wacker on steroids. The 4-2-1 isn't as bad.
