This block suffered a collision and and valve dug into the deck and I wanna use this block for a build and it appears that the head gasket doesn't touch this area at all ( although when squished it might) so I'm not sure what I'm gonna tell the the shop I'm sending it out to.

I can't get the the picture to come out clearer for some reason.

that block looks nasty as hell...as for the dent, you should talk to a machine shop and see what they can do for you...

Yeah I know it looks nasty there's a lot worst but that can easily be changed with a hot tank bore/hone but the dent is what I'm talking about.

 

i'd imagine that most machine shops have seen worse blocks come through the door...the only way you're going to know is by taking it somewhere and letting them assess the damage. I really dont see why it wouldnt be fixable...it doesn't look that terrible from the pictures

 

Oh and just to answer the question before anyone says those are cracks it's actually debris not cylinder wall cracks.

 

I wonder if you can't just o-ring the block to help seal it further?

 

i wouldn't be concerned about using it if it were me. smooth it out a lil and should be fine. that is a very very small area of the sealing surface if any at all. and hell you might be able to add a little metal there bore it and deck it and never even know it was there.

 

I don't see why it would be an issue. Just make sure its decked and honed, and it will be all of 0.25cc larger in chamber size than the others. Chances are the crappy ems DSM's use will fill that with carbon in notime.

 

Yeah, block should be able to get re decked. I would suggest getting new sleeves in it. just my .02

I've never heard of 4g63's being re sleeved.

My instinct would be to say...no go get a new one. Because why skimp out on a very important detail. i'm sure it would work... Im sure it would work well... but "what if".

I'd just rather not take the chance.

hell...maybe after you bore it and deck it...you wont even notice it

they've been resleeved before. Although that is highly uncommon due to the hella cheapness of blocks.

 

you think you could just weld/fill in the area and bore/deck it smooth?

its not contacted by the rings or anything so i would assume it'll be just fine

 

I've seen blocks were people have used opened up the upper portion of the sleeve to de-shroud the valves on special applications. I think you are good to go.

 

The picture makes it look huge. It's where the bore chamfers @ the tip of the bore its about a half mm wide.

 

Looks fine to me. Head gasket doesn't seal that close and the rings aren't anywhere near it. Looks small anyways. Some engines outside the honda world have a decent bevel along the entire cylinder to help in assembly. I wouldn't worry too much.

I think because most owners brag about the upcoming AWD launches and $$$ savings, but are embarased when it turns into a money pit.

And/or they have their own forums.

It's just that I'm not ready to post them up yet to be honest. I've done one on my Nissan's engine and none about my Civic.

I'm not embarrassed at all it takes tons of money to do these things and that just gives openings for people to put you down about it.

I want to use the element of surprise, but at the same time post by post on projects on here are beneficial because it helps me think when people shoot idea's at me to help me better my car, so please do expect a thread on all of these cars.

 

That's cool, they are definetly some ambitious projects. Looking forward to seeing a thread about em when they are done.

 

ERL can re-deck that for you and it looks like it will clean up. You can also go with a 1mm size bigger piston and by doing this it will bore your sleeve out to where the dent will be gone. By doing both of those it should definately take the dent out and we can do it in a couple of days for you.
