Default Cooling Fans not turning on, but work when I jump them

Yes, I searched and couldn't pinpoint my ? that needs answering:

Cooling Fans not turning on, but work when I jump them. I'm just leaving them jumped at the moment, so they are always on, but I'm just wondering if I have a bad fan switch or bad fan relay?

Would the fans still be able to be jumped and work if the relay was bad?

Ideas anyone?

Does your temp gauge still work? It could be your fan switch, or your relay. You should check both of them. If they are ok, then......?

yeah, temp gauge works fine. the car just gets hot in stop & go traffic because the radiator fan is not turning on. i'm gonna check the relay and fan switch tomorrow. i assume the fan switch is what the plug that i put the jumper on goes to. the thing in the thermostat housing...?

yeah i'm narrowing it down to the fan switch. haven't really messed with it much though cuz it's been so damn cold here in oklahoma. been in the mid 20's all week.

i jumped that connector that plugs into the fan switch on the thermostat housing, but now when i'm going down the highway the ******* car never gets hot! lol. both of those fans going, plus the 70-80mph 20 degree wind works a little too well at cooling the ol' gsr off. so lately i've just pulled the cooling fan fuse under the hood. when it gets warmer i'll investigate more ;-)

but yeah, i've kind of narrowed it down to the fan switch, since when i jump that connector, both fans work like a champ.

It's probably the relay. If you jump it and it works, then usually it's the relay. BTW my car doesn't run up to temp ever since I put a koyo radiator in it. Kinda sucks sometimes, but is awesome when it's over a hundred degrees outside.
