Default Good stands and jack??

Since I finally need to start getting under my car to install my mods, I was wondering what kind of jack and jack stands are good? I got some Craftsman stands, but they were too tall to fit under my car with my 2 ton generic (I think) jack. Is there anything in particular I should be looking for? Are there any good online resources? Or even places to purchase said tools? Thanks again!

Last week Sears had a 3 ton jack for $50 with free jackstands. I have the same set and they work great for my Integra.

I'd go with the brand you have already. Go back to Sears...they have a whole rack of jacks you can try out and examine for yourself.

I actually bought the 2 1/4 ton combo for 29.99

Anyways, what you can do is get yourself a few 2x4's. Then drive your car over the 2x4's or anykind of platform, then use the generic hydraulic jack and your jackstands. This is by far the cheapest way.

my friend got a Craftsman 3 ton jack and a free pair of jack stands for $50 last week.. it was a sale/promotion... if I didn't already have my 3.5 ton SUV jack I probably would have went for that set/sale last week...

I'm cheap I bought a wal mart 40$ special 2 jack stands, 2 ton jack, and crawler. I think it should be fine until I can buy some nicer tools.

Problem w/ 2 ton jacks is they usually have a range up to about 15in. which is not enough for you to put the jack stand under the car. Get one that has at least 19in range. Oh, if you lowered your car already, look for some stud to raise your ground clearance, otherwise you can get the jacks underneath your car.

Thanks for the help guys. So it looks like I need to look for a package that comes with the jack and stands together.

That info on 19in lifting was helpful too, thanks!
