2000 AT transmission slip - help !?!?
I just bought a used 2000 Accord with 123k miles. The AT slips during shifts. When its cold, its not so evident... it will only slip when accelerating fast between 2nd and 3rd.
When it is warm, it slightly slips during random shifts... sometimes more evident than others... sometimes not at all.
What are the best next steps to proceed? Should I start with just changing the fluid in case someone put the wrong stuff in? Should I try Lucasoil transmission fix fluid?
What generally is the cause, what needs replaced, and approximately what would this cost me?
Thank you SOOO much in advance for your kind help.

yes, everyone says these tranny's suck. nobody seems to recommend anything but the honda atf, there must be some reason for that
If it is a V6 then check with your dealer and see if the trans has been replaced. If not then you will probably need a new trans. There is a problem with the transmissions in those years that is covered under an extended warranty. However if you bought the car with the problem they may not replace it with no cost to you. You may have to pay some of the fees to get it changed.
You bought it used with 123k on it. I highly doubt they will replace it. Flush it, put some Honda ATF in it, if that doesn't help, start looking into new tranny's.
Damn man.. sorry to say but there right! i got a 98 v6 too for a daily driver.. and im on my 2nd tranny.. damn i like this car caus it's really smooth .. my girl got the o6 ex 4 cyl but i think mine is more smooth caus of the v6. anyhow i think im gonna sell the car.. to many people are having tranny problems. they even had a recall for the 2000 that's if ur under the 100k mile. anyhow good luck with ur car dude.
its not a V6
For sure I am putting honda ATF in for now, no question there. My buddy works for Acura in the service dept. so he has a lot of contacts in the junkyard world and also has access to honda reciertified parts. He said he will be able to find me a tranny no problem, and I will have a local tranny shop put it in. So that is the plan.
He knows a guy at Tripplett which I guess is the largest junkyard in the US, with locations everywhere.

its a the shop today - they are going to check for codes. if there are no codes, they will want to do a tranny flush as a best next step. I agree this is probably the next step. I will report my results.
I SHOULD ADD:
I spoke with my buddy who is a service manager at Acura. He said Honda Tech center is having them use GM Synchromesh Friction Modified in all their MT work. My buddy said he doesn't know how it compares to the Honda MTF, other than everyone that has gotten the work done is satisfied and says the tranny is much better. Does not pertain to my AT, but I figured I would add that info.
UPDATE
After the Honda ATF flush it only slips on upshift from 2-3 (based on my initial driving). 2-3 still sucks though. So I kinda wasted $300 there (the flush was expensive because they use so much fluid and I am sure up-charged me what they had to pay for it).
The shop said they found a TSB for a solenoid... the symptoms listed on the TSB was hard shifts though... and this does not seem like a hard shift. Soft, if anything. He said he thought a new solenoid would be better. I am thinking I don't want to waste any more money and just get it rebuilt like I should have from the get-go. The rebuild will have new solenoids anyway... I think the shop replaces everything. There is a local tranny shop which is well known, I will have them quote a re-build. I am going to see if they will let me supply the parts though, because I can get them through my buddy which works at Acura.

I know the V6 trannies are crap, but I thought I remember hearing there were some issues w/ 4cyl models as well. I believe some Prelude tranny's were included in the mass tranny recall, and they have very questionable reliability as well. So perhaps the 4 cyl Accords aren't rock solid either.
If you're going to start replacing parts, I'd probably start w/ the solenoid and / or tranny control module.

Yea, the 4 cylinder trannies aren't the most amazing thing either. I know for sure the V6 Accord trannies suck. My friend had a 2000 Accord V6 and at 100k the trans was already starting to slip. :/
