Default Mfactory Gears.

I installed the Mfactory 3rd, 4th, 5th gears and also replaced all of the main bearings.

I plan on making a mini write up about at some point when i download the pics from my camera.

Everything was stragith forward. Except everybody that says the bearings on the main and counter shafts just come off eaisly. This didn't happen for me. I had to force each one of these bitches off.

So the car is running great. Its pretty unreal how much quicker it is. Not to mention the gears just feel smoother. Prolly because the sycros don't have to work as hard now.

I recommend these to everybody. (I got goose bumps on the way home. The car can get to 120 mph so freaking quick). Oh this project was all started becuase my ISB was going bad. And the noise is gone finally Yay.

Yep still have the 4.4. At 80mph im at 5grand so its still very steetable. The rpm drop at low rpms is crazy. Just normal driving around town shift from 3rd to 4th is only like 500 rpm.

I'm glad you like the set so much. Keep your foot out of it and you can get better mileage than stock. One of my favorite things about the gear set is cruising in 5th. Passing is very easy.

Are there any ITR owners in your area that have a 4.9 FD? It'd be nice if you could put that together in a vid.

ITR's arn't really found in the indianapolis area. Ha. I know swell ryder is close but not sure if he has a fd. I would imagine the closet ITR with a fd is in Chicago.

Maybe we should plan a midwest meet when the weather stops being poopy.

The comparisons I've seen between 4.928FD:M-Factory's close gear set, have shown that the close gear sets have a bigger impact of performance, not by much, but more is more either way you slice it.

I'd love to do this modification when I have the money... Which won't be for a while.

The benefit of the close gear set over the final drive isn't much on paper, but it is much better in real life. Accecleration is quicker as you can see on the graphs I've posted before, but what you can't see on paper is the added acceleration from the RPM drop. More power when shifting into the next gear. (If you have a dyno readout from your car that gives hp for every 50 or 100 RPM, look at the power you would be at after shifting using both stock gears and close gears).

You also get a more accurate dyno number as you can dyno in 5th (1.000:1).

If I get a particular job I will be moving to Indy, I'l keep you posted if/when I do. I will be there Tuesday and meeting up with Josh/Swell_Ryder while I'm there. I'm not sure what we will be able to do in regards to time, but PM me your number and I'l try and give you a call.

MFactory is good stuff. I recently installed the 4.9 FD and 1st gear. Setup is great. Kinda sucks for freeway cruising, but around town is a blast!

After giving Aquafina a call and pricing everything out, an MFactory gear set is on my list of things to do. I want a new job!

What's the advantage using the close gear set over a 4.928?

the rpm drop between gear changes has in effect been shortened.

meaning that even if you change from a 4.4 - 4.9 the revs drop the same 2000rpm (THIS IS ONLY a theoretical number) vs. 1500rpm when you change to close gears.

A good way to see how this actually works is if you have a playstation and you equip any car with stock ratios and change the final drive vs. changing to close gears.
