Default When is a 38mm WG Not Enough? Simple Question?

This is something I don't see discussed much, but I'm sure there are plenty of you out there who know the answer like the back of your hand.

Is it as simple as "anything over xxx hp needs to step up to a 44mm," or something along the line of "lower HP on a given setup needs more WG flow to keep the boost down," or what?

Thanks! ! !

Yeah, that was a good read--I appreciate it!

Unfortunately though, I'm a little confused after reading it. . . It seems that the two main messages contained in there kind of contradict each other, which is probably related to the reason I wanted to ask for some clarification in the first place.

Basically, to a certain degree you need to let more exhaust bypass the turbine to keep boost down, so obviously that means you need enough flow to allow for that. But then the issue of "exhaust energy" messes everything up. The more boost you flow (with a good enough tune), the more power you make, and the more exhaust energy you have. . . According to this, you need more WG flow to control the exhaust energy, and you need more WG flow to keep the boost down for a low power setup. . . . .which also reduces your exhaust energy, and your resulting need for WG flow. . .

Anyone?
