You twist the gears which turns the cams a certain degree(most go up to 10 degrees, retard or advance). Depending on how you adjust them, you'll make power at different RPM ranges. Advance means opening the valve sooner than stock settings, and retard means opening the valve later than stock settings. Hope you understand my explanation.
Oh yea, a lot of people wouldn't reccommend AEM cam gears because it's only a three bolt pattern which wouldn't grab too tightly, but a lot of people had them for years and haven't experienced slipping.
Slipping is when the cam gear slips lose and your settings are now changed, so that means the valve could put a nice hole in your piston.

i'm not going to get them now, but once i do my b18c swap, i will be considering them. if you dont recommend aem, what would you think would be best for that swap?
