Default engine and tranny problems!!help!!

I need help. I have a 92 accord lx with a f20a and a five speed trans. Today I was hauling rear and red lined 2nd gear and started hearing a type of nocking noise comming from the front of my car. I pulled over and the noise wasnt so lound but you could hear it. and when I would rev it up it would sound loud as sh__t, the nocking noise. I thought it was my exhaust. so on my way to my mechanic the noise was only noticable while accelarating and while slowing down and of course in between shifts but not while in smooth idle. and at a stop light if I press the clutch in it wouldnt sound as loud. my mechanic said it was the main engine bearing but I think its the tranny.. what do you guys think anybody..help!!!!!

If it's not making the knocking noise when you press the clutch in then it's probably your throw-out bearing. If it still makes the noise regardless of pushing the clutch in or letting it out then it's a main rod bearing. Makes me think a rod bearing though if you were redlining the car...

just out of curiousity, have you ever had a blown head gasket? or regularly take the car to redline?
