Default Help! *Shift Lock*

Hey I have a 1994 Integra. I can't get it out of park unless I put the e-brake on and put my key in that slot. Help please!

No, I mean you have to put the key in by the shifter for the shift lock over-ride, no the ignition haha

its automatic ?

if the car isnt on or the key isnt in the III position then u cant put it into gear.

but if u put the key in the shift lock slot next to the gears then yeah itll come out without havign to turn the car on.

It's an automatic and when the car is running you can't take it out of park even if you depress the brake. You have to put a key in the shift lock right next to the shifter

o so when the car is on, it still doesnt come out of gear? you HAVE to put it in the keyhole next to the shifter then start it?... um, have u tried holding ur brake pedal down while the car is on haha. cuz i mean, automatics when u put it in gear u have to hold down the brake pedal to get it into gear

unless seomthing is wrong with ur car then idunno,

what u can do is put it into N then u can start the car.

Like I said, even if I depress the brake, I can't move it into gear. Maybe theres a fuse somewhere between the shifter and break that's shot so the car thinks the brake isn't being depressed. I have a feeling it has something to do with a safety feature gone wrong but don't know where to start.

My brake lights don't come on when I push the pedal... I think it may be a safety feature that it's not coming out of park.

Wow JDM_CRX_PLEASE isn't exactly the brightest person out there.

To the OP, check the sensor at the brake pedal. It's a button kind of sensor that should sense when you're pushing the pedal.

when you car is @ idle. and you press the brake pedal down to movie it out of park. you can and should hear a switching sound. If you do hear it, your saftey feature (forget the name) is working properly. If you don't hear it, check out the sensor. I think its located near the foot pedals. Might be a fuse too that goes to it.

Right on, been doing some more research and from the replies and what i've read it sounds like the sensor or the fuse. Hopefully thats it, I'll keep you guys updated. Thanks again.

Well I finally got time to work on the integra. It was simply the fuse to the horn strangely enough. Shift lock is now taken care of however I'm having issues with the brake lights... they aren't coming on. All fuses are good including the switch under the brake pedal. hmm...

may not be much help. but try and replace all your brake lights. they should be only about $5-$!0.
i had a car once, came in paid for 1hr diagnostic, no brake lights, the writer was ready to sell them a brake switch, when all it was, was that all the bulbs were burnt out.

Sorry I took so long to get back to this posting. My front wiring harness was damaged and the horn wasn't working. I guess it caused a short. Anyways, long story short, made a harness from scratch for the sigs and horn, replaced the fuse, replaced a tail light bulb, and now its all good
