ls/vtec reliable vs unreliable
so im contemplating putting an ls/vtec in my da because i hear alot of people say they blow to easily but now im starting to see people say that they can also be very reliable when done right so heres a poll for those who have had an ls/vtec and have either blown it or found it to be reliable.
oh and let me also add that im going turbo on which ever i pick.
thanks

There ya go. 13 pages.
There will be people that would trust there life with lsv and then other people that wouldnt even let the idea cross there mind. 90% of the results is just going to be peoples opinons from what they have read in other threads. Do the research yourself, they can be reliable but there are specific ways you have to build it. And get it tuned!

I won't say that I've had an LS/VTEC myself but I have known 2 people with turbo LS/VTEC's one was running 300whp with 270ft/lb and he ran that for 3 years til he sold it. The other is a guy I work with that had a 500whp(before the 100 shot of nitrous) DD with A/C that has been running for 2 years now, he sold it but we still see the other guy every once in awhile. He ended up blowing up his turbo but his motor is still good. Like everyone says it is all in how you build it. I will say though that I love GSR bottom ends.
^^ Don't worry about it.
It all comes down to a money issue. If you can afford it, a GSR is a great way to go. If you have a non-vtec block and access to a VTEC head and a little spare time, an LS/VTEC isn't a bad option. People do blow them up because the LS rod bolts aren't made for the high revs...they stretch and often break. Invest in a set of ARP rod bolts and you shouldn't have a problem.

That's a good call...if you want help with a setup, be sure to check out the FI forum...you can also PM me for advice if necessary. I have a turbo GSR and could give you a few pointers

wow i didn't know all about that ls/vtec stuff..it was a good thing i did a research...and found this post..i was going to do ls/vtec but since my bottom block has 195k on it...and im on a tight budget of 1500 im think i going to go with gsr engine and tranny...my buddy is selling his for dirty cheap to me all it missing is dizzy and ecu....i found most of the requirement for ls/vtec...but i didn't think about the bottom block...thanks guys
Ive been commuting in my LS-Vtec everyday for the past 2 years (120 mi a day). Cali traffic is worse than street driving. I redline it at least a few times (8k) changing lanes, passing, on ramps etc. Myne runs just fine. Even has an oil leak!

You have no idea what your talking about, you cant even spell. If you beat someone BY a car length it could easily be driver error or 100 other factors that factor in during a race. And I'm having trouble believing that a stock lsv will produce more power (aka pull on) than a ITR. ITR has higher compression pistons, more aggressive cams and a better flowing head. I would really love to know where you come up with your logic.
