low gas light wont come on
no actually when i am very low on gasthe light should turn on right or make sum sort of a beeping noise to notify me. but that doesnt happen. also i am almost sure i have a few minor problems in my car yet my check engine light doesnt power up. unless i literally don't have anything wrong with it. but back to the low gas light, would i have to change a blown fuse maybe? i am not sure if it is blown though. am at work

Yea, i know ppl with accords and integras (mid 90s) that work fine too, but allot of the time i hear complaints about how civic gas lights dont come on when they should. I cant say for myself, cause i dont run my car that low, and dont plan to attempt it either, lol.
Aside from the bulb being burned out, what other ways are there to test if it functions? I would imagine pulling out the fuel pump assembly and letting that floater reach its minimum, and put the car to 2nd acc, and see if the light comes up.

The gas light just lights. It does not beep.
If your cluster isn't lighting correctly, it could be as simple as some blown bulbs, removed bulbs or maybe even a bad cluster. All pretty easy to fix.
My '98 EX gas light comes on fine, but the light in my boyfriend's '97 CX never lights and never did. This is why I think a lot of people have "issues" with their gas lights. If you have a CX, for example, you do not have a gas light.
As far as the check engine light only coming where there isn't "anything wrong with it (the car)"... When you turn the car on the check engine light should light up for a second and then go off. I'm not sure if this is what you're talking about, but that should happen.
If you're curious about the fuse layout in your car and you do not have the stock diagram that is attached to the fuse door, look in the FAQ for the thread with printable fuse diagrams. It's the second time the word "fuse" is mentioned in the thread.

Bad answer. That's like if I asked how to fix my air conditioning and you told me to just roll down the windows.
he wants it to work. It doesn't matter why he wants it to work. He just wants it to work. So tell him how to fix it or don't post. I'm sure he's aware of the tripometer. He didn't say it has caused him to run out of gas. It's just annoying for things to be broken in your car.

what i noticed is when i am low on gas, light doesnt turn on indicating that imma need sum. of course i know when i need gas. i just want to be able to utilize everything that came with my car. i have a 96 ex which comes with all the "candy".
yesterday i checked the fuse for the "instrument lights" and it was not blown. but the gas light does come on when i first turn on my car. along with the battery light, oil light, and for a split second the check engine light.
i am wondering if there is a sensor that isnt working right to trigger the low gas light?

You don't want to mess with that. Unless you like dropping your gas tank.

I have this problem as well. Its a 99 DX with an EX cluster. It worked when I first put it in, and recently I noticed that it doesn't work. When I turn my ignition key on, the gas light does not come on like all the rest of them do for that split second. I took the cluster out and tested the bulb, and the bulb is good. So I'm not sure what the problem is.
If your bulb comes on initially when you turn your key on, I'm guessing that yours is working, you are just not getting empty enough to make the light go on. When you fill up with gas about how much gas to you have to buy to fill your tank?

This is what an EX cluster looks like when the car first turns on.
The gas light does not turn on when you start the car.
And yes, the gas light in my car works. It just worked the other day.

when ever you are low on gas or close to it...
it never goes on when you are going up a hill?? and then turn off when i'm on level ground.
or
it never goes on when you are kinda heavy footed on the freeway? And then goes off when i let off the gas
Funny thing is that when i gased up when i saw the "low gas light" go on yesterday... it only filled up 9.5 gallons full tank. And this was at the 310 mile mark on my trip counter. So i had 2.1 gallons left in my tank could have easily drove another 30+ miles.
Most i ever filled up my tank was 11.3 gallons
When my low fuel light comes on... its never on constantly, its on for like 10 seconds and then dims to off... sometimes its dim and constantly like that and then goes off or come backs on.
I wouldnt rely on the light if you ask me.

When i bought my 98 lx, mine didn't light up either. so I went throught the troubleshooting steps in my helms book and found out its the sending unit. The sending unit was pretty cheap to replace.

You don't have to drop the tank to check anything ^WTF. The pump and sending unit are accessible from under the rear seat. Like I said the sending unit is not that expensive and its pretty easy to do, thats probably what you need too...

And did I say it was either of the two parts you mentioned? No, I didn't.
I was talking about the sensor for the level. I was not aware at the time of the last post that the sensor is within the sending unit.
Then again, you didn't manage to mention that in your post either.
