Default Cam gears

What is the deal with the use of intake cam gear, i-vtec cannot be used? Does that mean that instead of i-vtec, traditional vtec will be present, or just no valve timing at all?

intake cam gears take the "i" out of i-vtec. that means, the ECU will not be able to adjust cam angles accordingly. Therfore, you will have to adjust cam angles and timing mechanically. This makes tuning ALOT easier.

Why would removing the ability to change cam angles via kpro make tuning easier. There is so much power to be had from changing cam angles. IDK y anyone would want to remove it.

because the "i" of i-VTEC is the VTC function. this is more for increasing driveability (i.e. daily driving). most people who upgrade to camgears are running race motors, and aftermarket camgears are the only way to break the limit of stock camgears. stock camgears don't have the adustability of aftermarket ones and you could potentially run into problems (i.e. p2v or v2v contact)

Are aftermarket cam gears for K-series pointless to have with upgraded cams?

to an extent. most will say that stock will suffice, but up to a point. sometimes you just might need to run an aftermarket exhaust cam gear to squeeze out all you can (as in the case of blueprint stage 3 cams in a 2.3L stroked motor with full bolt ons)
