97 lx problem with idle. Help appreciated.
Hey guys, I have a 1997 accord lx with 138,xxx miles on it.
It's recently been failing emissions due to an o2 sensor, so I went to honda on monday to do their warenteed emissions service. Well they replaced an o2 sensor, distributer cap/rotor, new wires, oil change etc.
The check engine light went off, all good. Well on the way of leaving the dealership i came to a stop sign and my cars idle speed went from 700, and dropped to 0 and the car stalled out. Well i started it up and have to keep on the gas at all times or it stalls... it will not idle at all.
I took it back and the "mechanic" said i ran through a puddle of water because the engine bay was pretty much soaked. (I did not run through water at all, he must have on the test drive). i have a SRI so i'm not sure how a little bit of water would cause my car to not idle at all.. it's not like the car was hydrolocked.
Anyway he looked at the motor and then it ran fine (i went into the dealership to get coffee). I drove all the way home and the car idled at around 500rpm so it was rough as hell. insted of driving to my house i went to my friend's shop because my check engine light came on. he hooked it up to an obd2 machine. It said something about my EGR and he suggested I had a vaccum leak. Sure enough one of my vaccum lines was off. We hooked it back up and disconnected the battery and cleared the code with the machine. Great, it ran fine... sort of. It still idles rough as hell at around 500rpm.
The vaccum line in question is very brittle and loose so it always seems to pop off.
Could this vaccum leak be the cause of my car stalling out and not being able to idle?
Thanks for any input.
