Replace CV Joints or get brand new axels.
First excuse my n00b limited knowledge. Ok well my cv joints are bad now both are clicking bad. I bought 2 used cv joints from an auto salvage for $50 a piece. I was about to have them installed but now people are saying I should just replace the whole thing with axels they will put in there. Then I wont have to worry about the other inner things going wrong. So should I just replace the cv joints or do the axel thing the mechanic was saying.
And Im 110,xxx miles now timing belts due. How much should I expect to pay for it to be changed?
-Thanks

I would replace the axles. Look at Raxles.com, I highly recomend them and that's what I'm running right now. OE quality for less $.
never half @$$ something. changing axles would be a great idea, especially seeing how it is next to impossible to get one of them joints apart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and your timing belt is past due so change it asap before it turns into a WAD of rubber! you can get yout belt done for around 200 - 300 depending on the hourly rates of the shop you goto but my book says it takes 3 hours to do the job and 3.5 if you have a/c and your axles should cost around 100 a peice not including the parts of course! you could do the axles your self it only really takes half hour to change an axle if you got the tool sand your quick !
rule of thumb: if the CV boots are cracking but not split, rebuild the axles with new boots and grease. But if the boots are split/slinging grease anywhere, replace them. at this point your choice is remanufactured or new.
the way i see it, you paid $50 per joint. if you just got the two outers you got $100 bucks in it. if the guys charge you what they should to put them in, at say $60/hr, rebuilding them should be atleast 2 hours. so far you've got $220 in your axles and you're inners are still old. also there is no guarantee they'll last.
in a civic, i think we charge $260 tax, labor and parts for both brand new axles installed.
find the $40 and get it done right
