Axle removal problem
YES I searched.
98 Gsr, passanger side axle. I cant seem to seperate the shaft from the tranny.
Ive tried about 6 different pry bars. Ive tried the rachet strap idea.
Still no luck.
Any thoughts/suggestions whould be helpfull.
thanks.

Try using 2 prybars or 2 large screw drivers at the same time, if you only pry the axle on 1 side at a time, it may kink but using 2 at the same time has always worked for me.
if u have lsd u can remove one axle then poke the other one out through that hole....
putting a prybar or a screw driver on one side usually doesnt help if its jammed cause its machined so perfectly that if u try to angle it like that it just keeps it stuck.... try to use atleast two prybars or screwdrivers from different angles..... use one as a lever with one hand and hammer on the other one with the other hand....
DO NOT LAY UNDER WHERE UR HAMMERING
cause if it happens to fall even a 2lb tool can bust ur face open....

ive always used my 2 foot pry bar from above and pryd a little on each side a couple of times, then I just give it a quick jerk and it usually just pops out.
if all else fails get two pry pars and a buddy and one person pry from above and one person from below and it will come out for sure
usually its seperating the drivers side axle from the intermediate shaft that sux, but a 1/2 drive 12'' extention and a sledge hammer gets it done everytime

That's true, never thought about that.
I think I'll buy a itr tranny just for that reason.

Ive tried two pry bars at once.
The problem is I dont have much acess to get a large pry bar in there.
Im just going to drop the tranny (motor is coming out for a winter project)
So Ill just fo it that way.
Thanks for the suggestions

arent those are on the drivers side?
I pried and pried and couldnt get mine out then I put my foot on a pry bar and hit the axle with a standard hammer and it popped right out... wish I would have tried that to begin with

yes they are i have my sides mixed up. sorry for my neglagence.
I think if you can hit the axle at the CV Join housing with a hammer it might help free up the C clip thats inside. I have trouble sometimes and that usually helps. Sometimes the "C" clip at the end of the axle is doin its job to well.

I know the car has an aftermarket LSD. Im not sure of the brand (cant remember off the top of my head) But I have the reciept from the previous owner.

I wasnt sure if I had to do that or not, Ive removed several axles before but none which had a hydro tranny. They were all B series EFs.
So the question now is, Does the half shaft need to be removed?
(Im gonna feel like an idiot if it does)

I know that, but I wasnt sure if it had anthing to do with the removal on the passanger side.
I spent anthor two hours messin with it tonight. still nothing....
My only option now is to pull the transmission with it in there and then seperate the two.

YES. previous owner (cloose friend) had one installed.
He mentioned when it was first installed it kept making a popping noise that he couldnt figure out.
How the hell did you get your out?

just get a good strong and long pry bar and make sure you got it in a good position so that it wont slip and pry the **** outta it.. you might need to just use the hammer and bar or screw driver and bang the axle out of there. That is what I had to do the other night trying to get my driver's side axle. It had never been changed before (2000 gsr) and i couldnt pop it out so i hammer it out.

No room to physically hit the axle. Ive tried 4 pry bars.
I even modified a few pry bars and nothing, Hell I broke 2 pry bars
If the weather warms up a little in the next few days im gonna go out in my garage and seperate the tranny and motor and then expletive with it again.
Ill give you guys an update whenever i do that
