as the title says what are the diferences..... mated to a 94 ex trans. going from a d16z6 to the zc motor cuz ive spun a bearing in my z6 for the second time and dont feel like messing with it again.

Well you have to be specific. There's at least three ZC's, some w/VTEC, some w/out. There's even a DOHC ZC.

Assuming you're talking about the SOHC OBD1 ZC VTEC, the only difference from the Z6 are that the ZC has .2 higher compression, no VTEC pressure switch, and no vacuum port for the purge control valve.

DOHC is non-VTEC, roughly the same HP, not sure about torque, if anything, it'll probably feel roughly the same stock vs stock. Also, if smog is an issue in your area, check to see if you can legally swap that motor into your car (it's a no no for CA in an EG).

The link is for the 4th gen civic, but it was sold in an OBD1 version in certain markets around the world (I'm assuming you're getting an OBD1 version). Most of the info should still be relevant to your car.

 

yeah i live in calvert county md and the cars registered in st marys county so i dont have to worry about smog. anyway to make that motor have vtec?

 

I've seen it on here once where they used a B16A head on one, it was NOT pretty. If I remember correctly, the head bolts were not aligned and they had to tap some offset threaded holes to bolt the head on. On top of that, the combustion chamber of the head didn't fully align with the cylinders in the block. Do yourself a favor and kill any thought in your head about converting it to VTEC. If you want to keep VTEC in your car, go with a different motor.

 

ok so that thought went out the window. i dont like rigging stuff to make it work. only causes more problems. thanks for the insight 24ten . any other advice mod wise?

 

Looking at your mods in your sig, those parts will work with the DOHC ZC but may not line up perfectly. For example, your header will bolt to the head, but may not be aligned or may not reach the cat fully. Your intake will clamp to the throttle body but may not be exactly where it used to be.

The DOHC ZC is similar enough to a standard D-Series engine to the point that many parts are interchangeable. You just have to search around and see what will and what won't work.

 

im getting a header and intake with the motor i believe. ive checked out http://www.thezcr.com. very informative stuff. told me everything that i need to pull off the z6 to use in the swap. thanks h-tech ers
