high mileage s2k or salvage title s2k? which one would u pick?
im in the market for an s2k and have come down to the 2 of this. a clean title but extremely high mileage (140k) 2000 s2k for 1200 (ok condition, minor scratches) or a salvaged title s2k (66k miles) 2001 s2k (clean looking, ap2 front end) for 10,000. which one would u pick? right now im leaning more towards the salvaged one because of the low miles. inputs plz
If the salveged one has all the recepts from all the parts replaced and it was fixed at a good shop then dont be scared of it. Unless it was a flood. DO NOT get a flood salvege. But just so you know its a well known fact that the ap1 fornt is way cleaner then the ap2.

If I was on that tight a budget I'd be looking at other cars. </TD></TR></TABLE>
What's wrong with high mileage on a Honda? I bought my 01' with 103k on it and everyone said: "Ha! It's a Honda, it's just now getting broken-in once it's past 80k miles."
...but on HT for some reason having more than 80k miles is something to be afraid of. What's up with that?
Perhaps it helps that I'm a certified GMAT. I ain't skeer'd! LOL

Yes its a Honda but have you seen how S2K owners drive their cars? Those are all hard miles. Its a different story with this car versus an accord or something. Even if you find some old person selling the car, I wouldn't trust they drove it slowly. I had a 60+ yr old lady as a student on a track day. And she drove better than my other 2 students!!!!
The motor wouldn't be a concern to me regarding mileage. Its all the other components wearing out (suspension, etc...) that would bother me.

Mehh....I've got almost 115k now and don't regret grabbing mine. Besides a driver's window switch and top latches it's been just as good as any.

i agree... save a little more and get a lower mileage non-salvaged title...

y did they use better soap on the front end and have 2 guys hand wash it?
as far as looks the AP2 is hands down sexier and more aggressive

Okay, if you've got 10,000 then you can hold out for a car with lower mileage and a clear title for 12-14k. They are all over the trader. Resale value is higher and you'll have less headaches. The worst thing you can do is get in a hurry and then end up buying a P.O.S. You'll end up spending the cash to fix it and when you look at the total spent, you'll realize that you could've bought a newer, better S.

I know its hard to wait, the only diffrence is im going get a ap2 and make payments just waiting to find the right one.

Here's my .02
If you're planning on keeping the car for quite a long time (10+ years), I'd say the salvaged title if the shop who fixed it can show you before and after pics of what needed repair etc.
I don't really see the point of paying $12,000 or more for a car with 100k miles or more because with that money you could just buy a cheaper car and mildly build it to satisfy speed needs.
That aside, this was my situation 8 months ago when I picked up my 2002 w/ rebuilt title:
I wanted an AP1 (like any sensible person! hehe), but did not want an 00-01 because plastic windows are no fun. Sure, I found 3 00-01's for 13,000-15,000 with between 80k miles and 130k miles all with original clean titles.
But... I found this Suzuka Blue-metallic 2002 with 49k miles nearby advertised for $14,900. Guy showed me paperwork and pictures of it all the way from when it was wrecked, all through the repair process etc. I told him I'd give him $14,000 - we went to the nearest banking place where they appraised the car for $16k due to the rebuilt title and immediately gave me the loan since in their eyes they're already guaranteed 2 grand if I default on it.
8 months later I couldn't be happier. In the end, regardless of what we say on here - make an educated choice, and get whichever car calls to you

But think about it...the only way a car is going to have massive mileage is by either having high quantities of highway miles (which isn't so bad) or it was a delivery vehicle (which would be bad). How many people are using an S2000 as a delivery vehicle?
The CarFax for my S had it's first owner from 0 - 98k, then the 2nd owner bailed after 5k miles. Prolly like that one guy recently who bought a brand new 07 and ditched it after 3 months.
Heck, I've driven over 11,000 miles since I bought it exactly a year ago...4500 of it was driven solo on my vacation.
I'd never touch a salvaged vehicle over a high-mileage one unless it was for something it shouldn't be for like a theft recovery. I don't trust ANY body shop to be competent enough to truly fix anything in a correct manner. I know too many of them. At least with a high-miler you know quite a bit better what you're getting.

Based on everything that you have said in the original post, you should NOT be in the market for an S2000. You should save a bit more and get a newer/non-salvaged one, or go with another vehicle choice for now.
That's my opinion. I suspect that even with the two choices, they will be stretching your budget already. What if something goes wrong? A more expensive car will be more expensive to repair. Parts will also be more expensive as well.
