Ok so a friend of mine asked me to take a look at his car today, it's a mid 90's Mitsubishi Galant, which hopefully won't matter because this is a tech question. Anyways the problem is that when you select any gear with the shifter, it just stays in neutral, no park, and no moving gears at all. So I was wondering what this could be, it was at night time on the side of the road so I couldn't see well or look underneath it and was just wanting some insight. Also I don't know if this helps but something in the engine bay makes a loud whining sound as u rev the engine, that I'm not sure if it was there before or not, he didn't seam to know.
