Default do short shifters kill transmissions???

I have just recently installed a skunk2 short shifter in my car and many people i know "CLAIM" that a short shifter will make the synchros go out in ANY honda transmission. I was wondering if there is any truth to this or if its just a myth? If you have a short shifter on your car let me know what you think and how long you've had it in your car trouble free... Any input is appreciated.

All just rumors.
Killing trannys has to do with driving them too hard and beating the thing into gears.

A short shifter WILL NOT hurt your tranny... that is absurdly ridiculous.
Been running them for years... friends been running them for years... no such idea.

Shifting like a dumb *** kills transmissions.

I've had a short shifter in my car for almost 40,000 miles. Hard to believe.

Not one problem.

doesnt the short shifter just pretty much change the pivot point in the shifter? no reason for it to hurt the tranny at all. i've had my ss in for about a good year and the only tranny problem i have right now is my clutch(just recently started). i have a B&M ss

I'm not sure but I think the myth comes from a theory. The theory is that the short-shifter reduces your mechanical advantage causing the driver to have to apply more force to the shifter when changing gears and in turn putting more wear and tear on the tranny. However, if there's any truth to this the acceleration rate of the wear is so minute that variations in your driving habits would be more at fault for transmission wear.

what my theory is is that people install short shifters and then usually beat the crap out of there car and tranny shifting hard and crazy.I think thats what kills trannys,Its the driver not the shifter that kills tranny in the end

Short shifters are for grandpa's that hit on little boys at the gym.

Other than that, they're cool.

its not the shifter, i realized way back in one of my hatches that with the short shifter i slammed gears harder and with the shorter throw i sometimes dont have the clutch fully engaged and would accidently grind when not paying attention!! now im older and know that SLAM shifting just is stupid!! got the snapped shifter to prove it on my wall of shame

QFT.

Bad driving ruins transmissions. Short shifters enable more people to driver shitty due to shorter throws.

Majority rules! Short shifters dont kill transmissions... Idiots not using thier short shifters correctly kill transmissions... Some people out there dont understand that a short shifter is not a free pass to start driving your car like its some kind of "race car," trying to shift gears in the blink of an eye, slamming it in into gear, grinding the kabula out of thier gears, etc.

Having a short shifter doesn't actually ruin your tranny, but it makes it easier to mis-shift a gear. If you are a noob driver and you shift hard with a short shifter, chances are you will ruin your transmission. If you know how to drive and understand the way sh*t works, you won't have any problems.
