Default ecu noob

well im not an ecu guy but it just kinda sounds funny to me that my car is running a pr3 and the motor is a b18c1...if im not mistaken a pr3 is obd0, and im not sure if my motor is obd2 or obd1 (i question the guy i bought the car from) but im kinda sketched out by the ecu being obd0...is this an issue or can it be chipped to change or what...any help would be appreciated.

it would be in the oposite side of the wiper motor on the drivers side firewall (right next to your clutch cable and brake cylinder) also, see what year your head is stamped, i believe if it is stamped with a 95 or later, it should be OBD2 anything earlier would be OBD1 or 0(please corret if im wrong), btw the stamp should be right above your header and should be in a circle reading 9/5 for 1995 etc. also, "dizzy" is short for distributor. OBD0 and OBD1 used diffrent distributors. if yours has a grey plug on it then it should be OBD1 or later, if it have a yellowish white plug then it may be OBD0. .......dont woorry, with a little bit of reading and those infamous red letters at the top right of this page, you'll be able to answer any of your questions.

so you have an obd2 motor and you're running a pr3 ecu? well, i guess it's possible. you could have the obd1 pr3 and there could be an obd1>obd2 dizzy conversion harness tucked in there somewhere...maybe?

how does the car run? are you having any cel issues?

you can run any engine wiht any ecu. as long as the pr3 has the gsr map in it i dont see how it would affect it. but if it is a pr3 then you are prolly running an obd0 dizzy?
any cels?

You can make any engine run obd0. All you have to do is get the matching parts (obd0 dizzy, obd0 injectors). Everything else sensor wise is the same from 88-00.

not true, there are at least 2 sensors that i know of that are absent just going from obd1 to obd2, forget obd0 to obd2 (or vice-versa). i would know because i retrofitted an obd1 sir2 swap into my obd2 97 civic (my last project). i had to add the crank angle position sensor and one other but i forget what it was now. there are way more differences in the succesive generations of honda motors than you realize. most if not all of the parts can be swapped though so it's a matter of actually knowing what you're talking about.

here's what to check: look at your dizzy and see what part number it is. if it's a obd2 dizzy then you're running one of the two pr3's most likely with a conversion harness in between. if it's an obd1 or obd0 dizzy then there's been a lot more retrofitting of parts.

or you could follow this sage advice: if it's not broke. don't fix it.

well there are no cels but sometimes it'll stutter hard, like its not getting enough fuel or something...only when i'm cruising down the road usually.

please define "stutter". does it occur at partial throttle? during acceleration/deceleration? does it stutter once and then drive fine or is it more like a retard stuttering over himself continuously?

Ok, couple of things:

1st - I'd check spark plugs, wires, dizzy, cap and rotor for signs of wear
2nd - If it's not already, set your timing to base (or have someone help)

^^^
Those two will eliminate spark as a possible cause.

If it still does it after that then either it's a sensor (mostly likely tps sensor) ooooor you have a short in you harness somewhere. I know it sounds wierd but when I first got my EF it was doing something that sounds almost identical to the symptoms you describe. After troubleshooting for untold hours I said screw it and re-wired, re-soldered and re-wrapped most of my ecu/engine harness. Guess what? Problem just went away and never came back.

I just remembered something else. It could be your injectors. Since you're running the pr3 I think it's safe to assume you're running either obd0 or obd1 injectors. If that's the case then the injectors have pretty much reached the end of their useful lifespan. If none of the stuff above helps and BEFORE you replace any sensors have a professional flow test your injectors and see if they're ok. If not then there's your problem.
