If you dont drive on the freeway often or you aren't concerned with your mpg the B16 trans is a good choice. The LS (B18b1) is always a great choice whether it's for a DD or a boosted application.

I get good mpg with my b16. Drove 450 miles to Chicago and got 33 the whole way. But 5th gear can get annoying on the freeway, you're right about that.

damm you get 450 miles to the tank with your LS swap? i get only 300 in my coupe.

if its for daily then just use the LS for anything performance, go with the b16

No I have a b16 swap. But what I'm saying is I dont think the b16 tranny is going to have a major effect on mpg.

True but it doesn't have a big effect. It has more to do with throttle then rpm.

It all depends on what it is used for and personal preference. For me Im going with an LS trans because once my motor is doing being built for turbo it will be my DD and there is no way in hell that I am going to be in boost on the freeway in 5th gear all the time. Gas mileage would be a big

I love being able to cruise in 5th with my D16z6 @ 65-70mph and barely hitting 3k rpms. I would imagine with the LS 5th gear will be somewhat close to that.

umm, i see the b16 would rev a little higher then the b18,

if i do get the ls swap i might as well just go for boost and keep the ls tranny.

stick with the LS tranny. you will be disappointed with your mileage on the b16 tranny, especially if you decide to boost later on down the road

Good choice, and depending on your driving habits you should get a good mpg rating... if you dont have a lead foot of course. Enjoy the fruits of a nice DD motor until you turn it into a nice, boosted application.

In So Cal the LS trans also goes for 250 less than that of a B16 and around 200 less than a GSR (give or take depending on condition and the sellers need to get rid of it)

Just go with the LS tranny, Why get shorter gears when you only just drive the car.. Its not like your always going to be racing.. I mean if you always at the track than i perfer the b16 tranny, but if not go with the LS. More gas miles and keep that motor running lower RPMS.

is this swap a "complete bolt on swap". meaning that you could just swap the motor in with out customizing anything?

Anyone have details/write ups on doing this swap?

ls with ls tranny, LS engine dont make top end power like the vtec engine tranny's GSR, SI etc are geared for. you want a LS tranny with it no matter you turbo it, unless you fully build the engine for top end power then i would say swap in a GSR trans.

you will go slower in the 1.4 with any other tranny on a stock LS.

It's a basic drop in swap. There is no grinding/welding etc. Just make sure the swap comes with the p75 ecu, LS harness, axels, mounts (motor and T) etc.
