Ok whenever you start the car up (especially in the cold) It sound like a diesel running. After it gets warmed up and driven a little bit it quiets donwn and you can barely hear it. Now i had a '94 accord also and it did this too but not nearly as loud as this one i'm looking at buying what is causing this and is it a big problem?

BTW i know it's not a diesel i'm not that stupid......

 

the only thing i could think of causing it is that when you first start up the car the rpms are at 1500-2k while the engine warms up, if there is a hole of some sort somewhere in the exhaust, it could make the engine sound louder and rougher (like a diesel).

my 94 accord sounds loud when i first start it up but quiets down when the engine is warm, but if i leave the door open and rev slightly, i get the same sound as when it is warming up (btw, i do have a hole in the exhaust).

 

Go get a valve adjustment.

 

Do you have anti-lock brakes? The pumps for the anti-lock systems have been known to get noisy even though they are still functioning. Apparently it is "pumping up" the system.
