80$ paint job - started out rolling, but going to spray it on - you'll see why
( long read but worth it)
I'm sure some of you have heard about some board members rolling paint on their own cars and getting decent results. Some much better then others.
It's really all in the prep.
I've taken up a challenge to paint my 92 4 door civic beater.
I picked up some parts for this project during the summer and sat on the idea for a while.
I took action within the past two weeks. I have done a lot of different tests with the paint and thinning method, testing on bumpers and fenders, to see how it reacts and the best mixture.
So far, I've only done the bumpers, to the finish I want
I rolled on 4 coats, wetsanding after each 2 coats. Then I used aerosol paint can of the same color to coat the areas not reached and used a squared foam brush to hit any oversprayed areas.
After waiting and waiting for drying I got fed up of waiting ...
I did a 80/20 paint / mineral-spirits mixture and sprayed it through my 8 gallon compressor at 30psi and I got the results I wanted after one coat. I will recoat, but these last photos are sprayed. I wanted to be faithful to the roller method and I still will to get the fondation paint base down but I will spray the rest of the way with wetsanding 1000 / 1200 / and compound finish with 2000

supplies ( much of it I have not used yet )

update :
spray canned 2 coats of Tremclad Gloss Black on the mirrors and fenders after sanding them with 150 grit - pics will be up later on. Will wetsand them and spray the rest of the coats with gun
I will wetsand the orange peel out on all parts and have a wetsanding party
comments?

not too shabby, especcially with the kind of gun that you used. I see the normal orange peel but as you know, that can be taken care of with wet sanding and whatn0t. Keep up the good work bro, i'll be keeping an eye on this thread...!

Looks good for the job! when you going finish it up(wetsanding, buffing, etc..)?
I will be continuing to spray her down today and tommorow. Weekend time will be wetsanding and buffing.
The 3 doors I am replacing will be the next task.
Pics to come, no worries.
This paint is easy to work with
TIP: to anyone ever wanting to paint in their garage, clean the floors, wash them down with a cleaner, like mr.clean. Then pre-wet the floor before painting so the dust stays down. It really helps. I have hardly any particles to wetsand

or be lazy and spend $10 on 2 rolls of thin plastic and lay it down before you roll the car in

I have a lot planned in the next few days. No worries on this project, I will have a lot of wetsanding, but it's pretty easy with good music and thinking about what it looked like before
