pressure plate gone? cant move out of neutral
alright so im crusin down the highway, went to downshift to pass someone and it got stuck in neutral, wouldnt budge. so i pull over and popped the hood to see if its just low on fluid, fluids fine, selects gears fine with the car off, and with the car off if i press the clutch down the shift fork is still moving its full path. Bled the clutch, got alot of air out but no difference. if i started teh car with the clutch in and in gear, it would just start moving in whatever gear i was in. i managed to limp home by waiting till there was an opening in traffic, putting it in 1st with the car off and starting it and just going as fast as i could, i was able to shift without the clutch (rpm matching) to get home. This clutch has been in this motor for 6 years and has seen its fair share of abuse by me, and the previous 2 owners. is the pressure plate dead? clutch dead? both? or is it just the master or slave cylinders or both? input please!!!
no leaks anywhere. i did notice earlier today though that it was shifting really shitty, like hard to engage each gear and would sometimes grind, when it didnt do this yesterday. I didnt think any of it though. bump for more input!
what year is the car, is the clutch stock?
have you had problems with rpm climbing when going up hills or on highway, or has the clutch been slipping when taking off from a light?

i had that same chain of events happen and i had snapped my pressure plate in 2. But i was also in really high rpm's when i down shifted (B16) . So that sounds like how i had to get home as well. My guess is pressure plate like you said.
update:
took a video of what the slave cylinder looks like when i depress the clutch pedal, does it look like its traveling its full path?

Also i noticed this morning after the car sat all night the clutch pedal fells really soft, i did bleed it last night but it was stiff last night. no puddles under my car from leaks (only from where i spilled the bleeding bottle once) but no leaks dripping from the master or slave cylinders. ideas?

Funny thing, this just happened to me on the 10 freeway. I down shifted and it got stuck in neutral so i pulled over checked everything, everything was good. I did the same started it in gear and just rpm matched it all the way home. pulled the motor out ( I was gonna do this anyways) and one of the legs on the bearing was broken. changed, and worked fine again after that!!!!
Gooduck with it. Hopefully my info has been of use!!!!
