lapping day / track day for newbie
i notice a lot of (professional?) racers here doing track days or lapping days.
i have never done a lapping day or track day. only autocross (new jersey region).
what i would like to know is what are the requirements to run your street car on a track?
do i have to have any licenses? roll cage? driving schools first? can i just find a track and sign up for a lapping day without any prior track experience?

thanks guys.
i looked up HPDE events and it seems to be exactly what i'm looking for. the virginia one is pretty far from me though, but i found an event at limerock park in november hosted by NASA.
for any beginners interested, here is a site with some useful info http://www.nasaproracing.com/hpde/index.html
if anyone has ever entered a NASA HPDE at limerock (there was one in april. the car list was pretty intimidating!) please share your experiences.

I really wouldn't worry about what type of car you're driving. Last weekend was my first event, and some of the best drivers were in low-horsepower cars.
Mustangs, Porche's and corvette's were holding up Saturns and Accords through the turns. I drive a hybrid civic and I honestly feel like I could have learned more in a slower car. Pushing a slower car to the limits would be more rewarding than "cruising" in a porsche.
