Default code 17 vss(vehicle speed sensor)?

alright i just got my clutch changed yesterday on my 1990 civic rt4wd wagon...anyways the job wasnt done by because its too cold outside and i dont have garage. i got a code 17 vss, and my speed sensor isnt working, i would take it back to the mechanic but i think i can fix it quicker than he can, its probably unpluged or sumthing. anyways my question is were is it located, is it electrical? what does it look like...thanks guys

Inside the speedometer is a speed sensor
which sends a pulse to to ecu..

???

Our cars do not have speed governors?

And no, it won't remove your rpm fuel cup that's programmed into the ecu.

when I put my B16 in with the stock PR3 ecu it had a speed cut of around 110mph.

The JDM ECUs have the fuel cut programmed in but I know the USDM ECUs don't have it. Not to sure about the UKDM or others, just know about the JDM ones

JDM OBD 0 ECUs cut off around 110-112ish
JDM OBD 1 ECUs cut off around 120ish

Fuel cut huh? how does the ecu know your in 5 gear?? and would it have the fuel cut at any gear??? mines a jdm sohc zc ecu OBD-0 and I can only go up to 120 but I can go further with no problem if it didnt cut off there.
Also my friend has a GSR swapped crx and he was able to do 140 without the cut and his speedo cable is off.

So tell me, can you really go 120pmh in any other gear but 5th?? so that part is irrelavant and likely your speedo is off if it says 120 when it cuts out on an OBD 0 computer. and your friend apparently has a USDM ECU to be able to run that fast

I aint stupid...I was saying if there was a fuel cut in every gear, besides the rev limiter and mine does read right cuz I compared it to a couple of friends to make sure... gosh

Damn fool, quick to get offended aren't ya'? I wasn't even being offensive which is what's so funny, it was sarcastic humor at best, just relax man, you'll know real quick if I'm bashing you believe that. other than the rev limiter the only fuel cut your ECU has is the one you experienced @ top speed. switch it out for a usdm ecu or just reprogram yours and you'll be all good

i got the same code after replacing a trans...make sure the cable is seated properly in the VSS...throwing code 17 will prevent vtec from hitting...means less power. after i pushed in the wire, i guess it was loose, the code went away. problem solved. Does your speedo work? mine didn't while throwing the code.

We are all just "assuming" it's not on regular public roads to avoid any "keep it off the streets" arguments that would really drive the op off course. Since there are actually places that you can drive 120+ legally (race track for example) we should just leave it at that
