Rod Bearings and Honing Question for LSVTEC help
Hi, I have a quick questions. I am in the middle of doing a LSVtec conversion and was wondering if it is mandatory to change the rod bearings. My motor only had 94k on it and the rod bearings looked good. Also my cylinder walls are smooth with no deep scratches inside, and I was wondering if I still need to hone it. I am puting in PR3 Pistons with new rings.
Thanks in advance

always hone the walls when doing a rebuild.... run ur finger nail accross the surface of all ur bearings, if it catches then u will need to replaced that bearing...
I did, all my bearings are smooth with no scratches on them. But hone cylinder walls for sure then? kind of tried to avoid it since the block is still in the car
if you are putting new rings you have to hone or they will likely never seat.
and you can hone it in the car with a drill and the stones, but cleanliness and quality is always a question then.

Honing isn't going to really make a huge mess. Just wet down a rage and place it at the bottom of the cylinder. You have the pistons out therefore you have the oil pan off so stuff isn't going to be in the pan. Each cylinder only takes 1 to 2 minutes to do. I wouldn't take it out. That would be a waste of time. Rub some oil on the stones, use a moderate to slow speed with the drill and make sure you keep it moving up and down and wipe the cylinders after your done. Look to make sure you got good cross-hatching around the cylinder. So easy you have to do it.
