Default ITR or Lude-SH

one of my friends is thinking either to get a 2001 used ITR with very low mileage or 2001 brand new lude-sh from dealer... he can't decide and he wants to go fast...any suggestions??

Yes, from what I've heard the ATTS goes crazy when it detects alot of wheel spin. Personally, I'd just get an LS, build the engine, and boost the hell out of it. Buying an ITR to go fast in a straight line is a waste of money because he'll have to invest a couple grand in theft prevention and a few more grand in rebuilding the bottom end for lower compression.

i guess he's got enough money to do what you just said, besides ATTS, what else make ITR better than lude-sh?

What's wrong with the base Lude if you don't want ATTS?

yea i would get a ITR too, think SH is more expensive than ITR too, and stockwise ITR is faster, but then again like laughing2.2 said, i would get a older model say 94-95, GSR, LS, then build it, u can save up to $20,000 thats alot of money to build a car, u can make that baby 12 second easy

The ITR will cost a LOT more to insure. He should get quotes from his insurer before deciding. All in all, the ITR a better performer all around though. The Prelude will be more to purchase initially, but the overall cost of ownership will be lower.

Depends what your priorities are and how much $ you want to spend on owning a car...

If his only criteria is that he just wants to go fast, he should look at a fox-body Mustang.

this guy is a rich ***, he's got $25000 in his pocket already, I told him to go with 94 or 95 integra he said those are too old and he doesn't wanna look bad in an old car...WTF??? therefore i think he is getting the ITR, he called the insurance company this morning, and his rate is $2000/year, he is planning to have his friend help him to upgrade that R to.......watever the fastest that car can go...

ITR

I mine and will never sell it.

FYI: My insurance rates started out at $300/mo which is over 3K a year. They dramatically went down when I turned 25. Since then, they've come down even more for me. I now pay $1750/yr for my prelude and ITR!

The car payment, however, is what I don't want to divulge.

Buying an ITR to go fast in a straight line is a waste of money because he'll have to invest a couple grand in theft prevention and a few more grand in rebuilding the bottom end for lower compression.
I have to disagree here. I do agree that buying an itr for straight-line performance is not what it was intended for, but it can and will make a good drag car. It already has a few factors in its corner. Suspension setup, lower and tighter. Tranny-gearing/LSD. Head/cams-self explainable. Weight- a very valid factor. These are all in its favor of straight-line perf over a typical prelude or 'teg. There are many n/a itr's in the 12s, how many n/a ludes do you see breaking into the 12s?

A couple grand in theft prevention is exaggerating a bit, don't you think? I mean, the most expensive item people get is lojack, which is under a grand. I don't know many or any ITR owners who have spent thousands on theft prevention!!

My 2nd gripe is the comment about needing a few more grand to rebuild the bottom end for lower compression. First off, where did the lower compression factor come from?

Secondly, the compression isn't *that* high where you couldn't run forced induction. There are tons of people out there doing it on stock blocks, not that it's the recommended way, but it's doable. You could easily just drop in low comp pistons from anywhere between $300-600 if you wanted the lower c/r.

I'm not trying to start an argument, but I feel those numbers were slightly exaggerated.

ITR's have AC. Only 1 year didn't, or it was an option. They just don't have sunroofs.

In the long run, the lude would win. I had my prelude running pretty well before I turbocharged it. My prelude in n/a trim would still destroy my itr on any course. It had more torque, a better torque range, and ran 14.2-14.1 in the quarter. Comparing both cars in stock trim is tougher. I would still go with my prelude because it really had a nicer feel on the inside. I can spend hours driving that car. Everything is setup as i'd like it. With my itr, the gearing is high, so my rpms are very high(5000-5300) at 80mph, and having no sound deadning and insulation, the sound gets to be *really* annoying at times. With an aem it's all the worse. The interior design is more cramped for me, i'm 6'1. The seats in the R are awesome, but i don't dig the location of the radio and heater controls. With my lude, I could rest my arm on the armrest and control the radio and heater with the flick of a wrist. It was the first thing I noticed with I got in the teg, that and the major lack of torque. I need to cut it off here, because I will ramble on all night about what I like about each. One thing's for sure, the R definately is worth the price, imo. I absolutely love mine, 100% more than I did when I first got it. It's amazing what I can do with it, in it's stock trim(suspension).

Still though, with me the prelude wins.

so since u r saying the 1993 lude is better than ITR, does that also mean 93 lude is better than 2001 lude-sh?

If you or your friend are real car enthusiasts, you would go out and test drive those cars to find out which one you guys like better rather then depend on what people say in a Honda forum, where people generally say good things about the car that they own and bad things about the other.

And if your friend wants to 'go fast', then why wouldnt he just get a Camaro or something. If he's still set on these two cars however, then there is no real question that the R is faster(car vs car).

Each car has its strong and week points, and we should all know that being educated people.

Well, That was not a blanket statement saying the 93 prelude is better than the itr. I made that comparison after weighing out all the pros/cons of each car. As much as I love my itr, my lude will always come first.

If I had my choice, i'd take a 4th gen vtec over a 2001 sh, but that is just my opinion.

"better" is way too relative to use in this scenario.
