Default Brake Rotor Prices

Hey, has anybody noticed that the "$25 Autozone rotors" are now up to $38? (The silver lining is that they offer free shipping on orders of $75 or more, so if you're not going to their stores...)

I don't know if the price is up because of the recent decline of the dollar and the fact that they're imported, or because they have to compensate for you scammers who return them under the warranty after tracking them. The front rotor has gone up by 50 percent, and the rear rotor has only gone up by 6 percent.

That stinks.

They had been steadily coming down for year's. Maybe they are on to us, finally.

I still don't understand why the rears cost more. Maybe because they don't produce as many?

Yes, because they don't produce as many, and they don't sell as many. The fronts fit several different higher-volume Honda/Acura models (e.g. Preludes, CRVs, Odysseys). The rears don't (at least, not as many, and I'm not sure if they fit any other models). The rears also probably don't get replaced as often, on average, as the fronts do.

Here are the Honda/Acura models that our fronts fit:
1991-1992 ACURA LEGEND COUPE
1991-1995 ACURA LEGEND SEDAN (EXCEPT GS)
1996-1998 ACURA RL
1996-1998 ACURA TL 3.2
1997-2001 HONDA CRV
1997-2001 HONDA PRELUDE 5-LUG
1995-1998 HONDA ODYSSEY

Here are the Honda/Acura models that our rears fit:
2002-2006 ACURA RSX AND RSX TYPE S
1998-2006 HONDA ACCORD COUPE 6 CYL LX & EX (AUTOMATIC)
2003-2006 HONDA ACCORD COUPE 6 CYL EX ( 6 SPD MANUAL)
2003-2007 HONDA ACCORD COUPE 4 CYL., LX & EX
1998-2007 HONDA ACCORD SEDAN V6 (EXCLUDES HYBRID)
2003-2007 HONDA ACCORD SEDAN & WAGON 4CYL EX
2005 HONDA ACCORD SEDAN V6, HYBRID
2004-2005 HONDA CIVIC HATCHBACK SI 3DR 5-LUG

I thought I'd add in another option to the list of rotors. I run the blank rotors from Brakeswap on my Honda Challenge car. It's about $35 per rotor so it's about the same price as the cheap autozone rotors, but it might be made better.

LoL!

BTW, are those prices recent from Delray's? Ours is at $62.92 and $73.00 each respectively.

Great info, your posts area always extremely useful in terms of quality information.

No offense, but as soon as a read a non-Len affiliated Acura/Honda shop I immediately wondered what prices Len could offer.

perhaps the prices vary regionally? I just looked it up for here and autozone lists the front Duralast 2 yr at $32.99, which is indeed higher than a year or two ago, but $5 less than nsxtasy's quote..

the price I saw for the rear was the same..

brakefade? really? maybe there was some other issue going on there.. I ran them in a racecar with some pretty aggressive pads without any issue.. never even cracked one..

this is of course in addition to in the street cars with OEM pads..

AZ Prices ARE regional. The price you get online *should* be relative to your zip code.
Lots of things contributed to the recent price changes, and it was not just rotors, but alot of parts : decline of the dollar, subprime lending issues/housing slump, rising costs of oil/gasoline
The rate of warranty claims on rotors did not significantly increase.
But keep buying those rotors! The stocks up what, 20$ today? Mmmmmmmm

I called Autozone earlier today and two places that I called, charge 38/piece for the duralast rotors. Anyone know the prices of rotors from Kragen or NAPA?
