What bike would you buy for around $3-4000?
Looks like my bike will be sold as of tomorrow night, and I'm unsure as to where I want to go with my next bike. The price range in the title is just around what I'm looking to spend. I'm looking to buy a bike somewhat cheap and needing some work (fairings, paint, ect...) so I can have another project bike. I like having a bike to work on and modify, stock and put together bikes bore me haha. Anyways, here's the few I am strongly considering, in order:
- Kawi ZX7r
- RC 51 (if i can find a decent one)
- SV1000 with gsxr front end and fairings
- Maybe a SuperHawk and throw a 1krr front end on it, RC fairings, 600rr race tail
- And perhaps a gsxr 750, if I can come to terms with riding a gixxxxxer
What would you guys choose? I open to any bikes, but the I-4 600s I've ridden just lack in torque and I'm looking for a bike with a power band lower in the rev range. Fun Factor is really what I would like, and hopefully track days come this summer, $$ permitting

Haha, yea I love my bike, but since I've built it up the way I want it, I've gotten pretty bored. And I feel like a kid in a candy store looking at all the bikes for sale

Buell! Because nothing says project bike like one that continuously requires fixing and parts.
The 7R is an awesome bike. Plus, with their past popularity, you're sure to find a rat 7R that needs some TLC. The Superhawks are also great bikes to do a variety of projects (single-sided swingarm conversion, multitude of front end swaps, rads under the seat, etc), but I'm definitely biased on this one.
Would you also consider the SV650? Those things are pretty much the frankenstein of the two-wheeled world.

What specifically are you trying to do with it as my response will vary if you're trying to do lots of street riding or going towards track.
Superhawks can be had cheap. Loved mine and was a great bike. 1000rr front end doesn't really work too well on it due to clip-on clearance issues and the forks are real short. Read up on it on superhawkforums. Best front end for it is the rc51. RC51, well I love mine though I don't do a lot of street riding with it anymore. It'll be real tough finding one in your price range too. ZX7r - heavy and slow but classic. GSXR 750 - for price range would be one of the older ugly ones. The 04/05 and 06/07 ones are sweet but once again finding one in the price range is tough. Might be able to find an 04/05 in your range pending condition and miles. SV1000's are fun, tons of torque and wheelie monsters.
For me for $3-4k I'd have a gsxr 600, 600rr, or 636 track bike of some sort. Whatever I can get my hands on. There was a track gsxr 600 on nesba for awhile, maybe still available for crazy cheap.

Well mainly street riding, as I'm really not in a financial situation right now to get into many track days. I don't have a trailer/pick-up, funds for numerous sets of tires, cost of track days, ect. If I ever get out of school I plan on getting fairly serious about tracking, and probably not ride much on the street.
But for now I commute daily to and from work and class, which is a few miles, and hit up the mountain backroads a few times a week for fun. Roughly 200 miles a week.
I've always loved the 7r, and I think it will provide a decent amount of torque for commuting, and from what I have read the front end is amazing. Also, I've been speaking with a local guy with a 7r for sale around $2k (needs some bodywork and I'm sure tires among other things). But the sound of a v-twin is great, and 60+ lb/ft of torque would really be fun.
I think I'll just keep shopping around, but I'd like to pick something up within the next month so I can get started on building it up nice

750
I was at a bike shop the other day and saw a new 750 in dark blue, man.. I gotta say I hate Squidzuki's but man! It was calling me. That's one bike I'd get rid of my R6 for. Anyother bike, I'd keep the 6 and just add to the collection. But the 750 could replace it and I wouldn't miss it.

If he has been riding and has experience, a 600 is still the best bet.
In terms of power, a 600 has the most usuable, plus it's the smallest, making it easier to maneuver in tight spots rather than a sv1000.

Maybe for you. They are also often the most uncomfortable.

So having to rev the engine to the moon or downshift 2 gears on the highway gives it the most useable power?
Something like an SV, with high bars is going to be ALOT easier to maneuver in tight spots than being crouched down on a pair of clip-ons
Get off of the "you gotta have a plastic wrapped supersport" bandwagon
If it works for you, great - it just doesnt work for everyone.
One more for good measure
