Default Satin Red: About to talk to the body shop.

Ooooooookay. So i made a thread:

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=2149941

And decided that the chevy looked like the finish that i wanted. So here i am now. i realize that there is a satin black thread, and the cool fellow with the flat green eg and i have spoken. So, Is there a quality process to making a show quality satin finish? I've heard everything from flattening agent in the clear to buying rust sealer and doing the whole car in that. Its not that i want a show quality finish, just good paint. ANYTHING besides what i have now would be better. My **** is Fugly.

thanks to all the painters.

There is a quality process for every high quality paint job. Some paint systems have codes for flat, satin and semi-gloss clears. A good paint job like this will use a high quality 2K clear, mixed accordingly to the chosen finish type. Sprayed just like any other 2, 3 stage job. These type of clears do use the flattening agent and/or translucent clears in the mix, along with the gloss clear and hardener. Not all mixes will be the same and will vary from different brands and companies.

well there is a lot of useful info on the $50 paint thread The rustoleum has several satin products I am using there satin black for my ej with the roll on method. Def not show quality but its tough paint...... Here is the link you can find it at Home depot walmart ect.

http://www.rustoleum.com/produ...SBL=1

Everyone has there own opinion on this topic but its cheap and will give you that satin finish your looking for.

The only satin jobs I've done have been base clear. You could do a single stage also. But I recommend going w/ base clear.

i've done a couple flat/satin jobs. all base coat, clear coat with matting agent in the clear. i spray glaurit (BASF)

there are several paint companies offering matting agent for their clears. it's still gonna run you the same amount as your normal bc/cc paint job.

read this... I've sprayed several things satin/flat with glasurit (BASF) products. and they back it up 100% as long as it is applied correctly.

at the end of the article is a satin red saturn.

BASF has codes in their RM Diamont line for flat, satin and semi-gloss also. They use some DC clears the BC100 and their flattening agent. BASF Diamont is what I've used to do this type of finish and have had great results.
