Default Anybody tuning for good fuel economy in the lower columns?

Tryed a search, didn't come up with much.

I was wondeirng if you could tune your car for decent fuel economy in the lower rpm and throttle settings, so if you decided to just "putt-putt" around and not be a menace to society you could get 30+ mpg in town.

I remember there being a guy doing this with his K swapped EG to get 40+ mpg taking it easy in town, but I was wondering if it were possible with the OBD-1 tuning options. I'm using Neptune with my G23VTEC powering my '93 hatch.

Sure is possible, I reccomend an EGT and WB to keep everything safe. Depending on how cool your motor runs it should be easy to get away with mid 15:1 AFR. I would be cautious on long highway trips though. Running hot for extended peroids of time can swell your pistons.

I run the everything up to 413mbar absolute at 15.0:1 +/- .2:1. You can run it at 15.5:1, but I didn't like that it made it more sluggish.

yea, high 15's and low 16's is about the breakup point as far as AFR goes. When i am on the street, low cam/part throttle MPG is all i am aiming for. As well as linear and smooth acceleration.

Tell me what kind of EGT's are safe for an NA motor. I had an EGT gauge waaay back when I had a B20B Turbo Civic, but I don't really remember what was good and what was bad.

i agree totally.. for tha afr 15.5 till about 500mbar is fine for the city
also having the ign advanced also at those areas will allow u to move and gain traffic speed with less throttle

I can't tell you the limits as I am no expert but I generaly run ~1350-1400 while cruzing on the highway according to my autometer gauge. Probe is ~2" out from flange on runner 3.
