Default Can you shorten a radiator????

I have a nice aluminum PWR radiator that I would like to use again but is 1.5 in to long/wide. Is it possible to cut and reweld?

ya, I helped shorten a 5" thick one a little while ago. Just cut it and you will see what needs to be done.

You can only "shorten" them by cutting in between the tubes through the fins not across the tubes.

I just did mine tonight. It's very easy to see what needs to be done once you cut away at it.

Yup, should be doable with most radiators w/metal end tanks. I did this on the one below. I also added in a 2.5" strip along the side to prevent side damage to the newly exposed tubes

Vertical bandsaw or a sawzall if you're careful.

I cut mine with my HF bandsaw in the vertical position and it ate right through the fins. I just have to find a good way to remove the remainder of the fins from the now outside tube so I can cover it with a sheet of aluminum.

Most of mine broke off easily with a little bit of flexing/swiping back and forth (using a welding glove on the hand)

You can but you have to make sure that its not a sodered fin rad like griffin rads or it wil just become a big water strainer!
