Problem with my new touch screen head unit
So I bought a Dual XDVD8182 the other day, and i'm in the process of putting it in my DA.
Well I loomed the wiring harness and all that ****, and it gets power, but the display wont show anything. Anyone have any ideas? This is really frustrating.

1992 Integra GS
I used a wiring harness adaptor... It turns on, beeps, and the LEDs come on, but nothing displays on the touch screen OR the regular screen.
Got it at hhgreg

i know that the unit must of been bought at best buy. Only best buy sells Dual. First thing Dual isnt really good when it comes to Indash. thats why they're less priced then the other in dash. Second did you use a harness to install it or did you hard wire it? what vehicle is this? was it an open box item?
Did you hook the parking brake wire up correctly? Depending on the model you also need to wire to the brake wire as well and do a brake to e-brake sequence to make the in dash play DVD's and what not. I have the Alpine IVA-w205 Double Din in my old DA and now in my DC... Model of the Unit?
Now are you not getting anything for a display on the Deck when it is flipped out? What is it capable of? DVD/CD/Ipod/TV Turner? Are you on the right source? Does it play an audio? Check the manual on Troubleshooting Video...
But if you have a wire harness all hooked up correctly and you have audio. I would check the manual on Troubleshooting and/or look to return the unit for another one. Dual isn't a top of the line unit, but works for someone on a budget or just wanted a screen in their car...

The parking brake wire isn't even hooked up. My friend has the same head unit and he didn't even ground the parking brake wire and his still works fine.
The screen isn't displaying ANYTHING. Its not just when I try to put in a DVD or anything. As for audio, im not sure yet, i'm still working on wiring it all out, but as of right now, no its not playing any audio. It doesn't show anything. The LEDs light up when the screen is down, but no text or anything comes up
And when the screen is up, nothing is displayed...
Its a DVD/Ipod/CD/Video. Its a XDVD8182 by Dual. The manual is **** and doesnt tell me anything.
Do you think its the parking brake wire? I've tried just mounting it to a the frame and it didn't work.

I looked through the manual. This is just like the Jenson units we sold at Ultimate Electronics and they are VERY easy to install. Here is a little insight I would try... Red below to all the talk about the Parking Brake wires just a FYI...
Now I would get it all hooked up and see if you get anything on the front display when the deck is closed... And get some speakers hooked up so you can see if it is outputting sound. Also, was this unit NEW? I scanned the previous part to this post an didn't notice if "Yes" or "No"... Also, give the master reset button a shot. I think out of 30+ of the Jenson ones I installed I have 2 or 3 that were DOA... So quickly hook the e-brake wire up Easy as hell to find on a DA if you have the center counsel out you can pull the carpet up on the left side and get your wire. Test it and tap into that. Then hook a few speakers up for audio reference and go from there. Check all your connections and Keep it Simple... When troubleshooting. Now if you are not getting anything on the main display as well it might be a bad unit... Not totally common, but it does happen with all brands.

**Check that you have a GOOD ground as well for your black wire...**
(Video Lockout: For safety reasons, you cannot view a video source on the built-in monitor as long as the vehicle is in motion. In order to display video, the supplied yellow/blue wire must be hardwired into the vehicle's parking brake light circuit, and the vehicle's parking brake must be engaged.)
First situation is while driving:
1) Stop vehicle, put in Park, PARKING BRAKE off / non-active= "HIGH"
2) Depress PARKING BRAKE for 1 sec = “Low”
3) Release PARKING BRAKE for 1 sec = "High"
4) Depress PARKING BRAKE hold permanently = “Low”
Note: The transform time must be less than 2 sec between
”High—Low”/”Low High” to function properly
Once the High—Low—High—Low—HOLD procedure is complete approx 3
sec—video will display.
Second situation is while already parked and the PARKING BRAKE is already
engaged:
1) Keep vehicle in Park, PARKING BRAKE should be off = "Low"
2) Release PARKING BRAKE for 1 sec = "High"
3) Depress PARKING BRAKE for 1 sec = “Low”
4) Release PARKING BRAKE for 1 sec = "High"
5) Depress PARKING BRAKE hold permanently = “Low”

J's91Teg - Thanks man. I'll run through that tomorrow, don't have time to now because of work.
The unit is BRAND NEW also..
I'm not getting any display on the lowered screen as well, it lights up though. Its obviously getting power as all the buttons and **** are lit up, but its not getting anything on the touch screen OR the standard front display. The front display is lit up but no text.

Bum unit maybe? We had a few units dead out of the box... </TD></TR></TABLE>
I guess its possible eh? I was worried about that. The place I bought it from has a 10 day return policy, so maybe i'll try taking it back...

J's91Teg With my unit, the brake input simply required a switched ground. Regardless, I can't imagine this would have any affect on the LED screen when the unit is closed. I suggest returning it for a replacement. When installing the new one, remember that a good ground is absolutely necessary with these AV units. Grounding mine at several points, including the harness and chassis, solved many problems for me.
I've messed with this thing all day. My only conclusion is that its defective..
Gonna return it and look at other options...
Did take some pics. This **** was a problem from the get go...
The unsightly gap. My old head unit was mounted where that hole is, and I had a pocket below it to put stuff in...

When the screen is up, it looks cool...
But the text thats on there is a sticker protecting the screen...

This is how far I have to pull it out in order for it to clear my climate control... looks like ***...

Yeah, I am.
I'd really like a touch screen, but I think im just going to rock a standard head unit. It seems like my DA isn't made to have a touch screen
Any recommendations? Id rather not spend over 250

You can pick up a kvt617 for pretty cheap, and it's screen will actually extend out a good 5" or so from the base so it would probably work pretty well for you.
As far as regular head units go, I'd go with an alpine or a pioneer

Well if you are looking for something in a double din fashion and don't want to fork out the bucks on like an Alpine IVA-W205 or Pioneer... You could always look into the Dual Double Din...

GL on your set up man!
Now there are some fun HU's you could look into... JVC makes on that has a 3.5 inch screen on it. Give you a VERY small video source. I am a firm follower of Alpine and they have some nice head units you can get into for $250.00 or less. Not the biggest fan of the new Pioneers or Pioneer Premiers. Eclipse makes some nice units, very plain but very nice quality.

JUST about every time I did head rest monitors, visor monitors, over head video, or in dash DVD player people always seemed to have either some kind of **** to leave with playing or some uncut hip hop videos...
No **** on my DVD Double din that I had in my old DA, but one of the only pics I have of that Deck in my DA. IN the process of putting it in my DC...
